My '88 buick regal has a tune up anf fuel injection cleaning last year. This year it started stalling so they replaced the idle control valve after lots of visit back and complaining. That was in february, the car at the end of June it started back up again. I took it someplace else was told the other place didn't do a tune up or used crappy parts that I needed another tune up. I had it done, car ran fine for 10 days then back to stalling. Took it someplace else again and they checked codes then reset computer, now it is idling fast and oil light came on but doesn't stay on. They think now it is the mass air flow sensor. I am getting very confused and frustrated. I need my car to drive my two girls around and it seems nobody can find the problem. Can somebody please help me and tell me if this part sounds right or could it be something else? Please help me soon.

yes it will,,i own a repair shop in Tennessee, and i see a lot of them doing that,,and the bad thing is people go buy everything new except that,,replacing parts one at a time can get to be expensive,,but yes it will cause one to die, also run bad,,and loose fuel economy,,and when cold they will start ,,and sometimes die, also when you pull out sometimes they will hesitate,,i hope this helps.

I absolutely hate to recommend a vehicle go to the dealer, but in this case that is what I'm going to suggest. Take it in, give them the history and what has been replaced already. Sometimes the factory trained people can find things others can not.

Yes, an air flow sensor being bad could cause stalling. So could low fuel pressure, so could a plugged up fuel filer, so could a bad throttle position sensor, etc. etc. Take it in. It might cost a bit more at the dealer, but if it gets fixed right it will be worth it.

Yes,but the way things were done in 88,you could have a dirty EGR,exhaust gas regulator, its a $10 part, and 2 1/4 inch hoses.Does it hiss, or make any air leak sounds, check all the little hoses.I think your year has throttle plate still, and any used parts could have clogged passages on the manifold. Some of them are only millimetres big.Check the gas fuel filters, one on tank, and one at the throttle plate.Gasline, and water in gas are the biggest causes, and the friendly mechanic will say you need a $1200 black box.Spend .99 on some methyl hydrate, get some good gas,and get on the highway.I would love to hear what happens.Fast idle, then slow, gas,or airflow ,check all of the above, dont trust yerr baby to a guy that needs a busted head for cutting a wire, another thing to check.See if they changed the air/oil/gas/tranny FILTERS.Hope to help,From TORONTO,Eddie/67

The correct answer is, it MIGHT be the source of your troubles. What you are describing sounds like a bad MAF sensor, or possibly a bad connection to the sensor causing intermittent failure. My honest advice is to take it to a Buick dealer. Tell them everything the car is and isn't doing, and let them check it out. These other guys are going to nickel-and-dime you to death replacing one thing at a time. Take it to a dealer.

Hope this helped.

YES!! i went through this same problem!! they kept telling me that nothing was wrong with my car b/c it would take driving around for about 20 min. before it would start stalling. i went to a shop to get it fixed and they were putting it in wrong or something b/c it kept stalling and jerking and like shifting hard. i finally had to just take it to the dealer. so i would take it to a dealer so u dont go through the problems i did. i have a '98 grand prix and it costed me $500 bucks with labor and everything. but yes it is definitely the maf sensor. good luck.

The mass air flow sensor could make it stall and harder on fuel. Also, a cracked hose connecting it.

Good luck!!

it sure can buddy.theres a quick way of checking it if you want to know.start your car and take a handle of a screw driver and tap on the sensor and if it stumbles or stalls then its bad.hope that helps you.

can be the mass. have you checked gas filter and fuel pump.? If oil light comes on you probably need a new oil pump. which means a total motor rebuild. sorry
