the 1st activity listed on a report for a 1987 car was in 1991 for emmissions test. how do i find prior info?

If you know the previous owner, ask. It's not unusual for things not to show up on history reports. Do it yourself types that change their own oil and do their own repairs wouldn't show, for example. There are other things to consider, was it used commercially? Is the mileage correct?

It is entirely possible that there was no significant prior info to report...Carfax is generally fairly thorough. I'm thinking that there was no other significant activity before then, other than routine maintenance, etc.
