I am a travel agent. It's safe all over America so long as you are sensible. The Americans are usually very welcoming to the Brits and love to talk to us! Just don't go in any dodgy areas at night, don't sleep in your car, don't carry loads of valuables on show (but then you wouldn't do that in Uk inner cities either, would you?) I am going this year and next year. Nothing will put me off. The Americans are warm friendly people.

Tour (1) Philadelphia, New York City, a drive through Pennsylvania farm-steel country and then Washington DC
This tour is a tour of America its different values and culture
Tour (2) San Fransisco to San Diego -- Hay it's California culture and it is Wow for scenery
Tour (3) Las Vegas, Zion, Page UT, Grand Canyon and then back to Vegas. Vegas is the hottest city in the world and many European are just awe struck with the wide open space. Not a lot of people (except Vegas) and some of the greatest non-ocean scenery in the world
The Big cities are generally NOT that safe in the non-tourist areas -- But otherwise America is a safe place to visit

It's safe almost everywhere. The dangerous areas are very easy to spot, and easy to avoid. It's a big rambling country, with many wonderfull cities, some terrific small towns and villages and restaurants to suit every taste. Travellers all have favourites, even bus travel can be enjoyable. Disney World and Orlando can be fun.
The time of year dictates your itinerary. The U.S.A. can be inexpensive if you choose. Most travel agents are looking for the high end customer.

I would say it depends on what you like. If you like mountains, head to the rockies, they are tall and majestic. If you like cities, there are so many I couldn't even tell you where to start. I guess New York, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Memphis, the list goes on and on, however I would try to avoid Los Angeles, unless you like big cities with lots of pollution and unending traffic. Now, my favorite city in the U.S would be the capital, Washington D.C. The monuments, the archives, the history of the Capital building, the White House, the Supreme Court, its all there. The museums, I would definitely recommend that as a city to go to. Also, there are like 4 different universities there, which make for a pretty good party scene. It is a high crime city, but as long as you stay around the schools like Georgetown and George Washington you will be fine. If you like beaches, try the Outer Banks of North Carolina, or the beaches of Clearwater Florida near Tampa and St. Pete. Of course the beaches in San Diego and many more up the coast of California are nice too. There are so many different possibilities here in the U.S. that it might take you more than one trip to see everything you want. Its like what my dad says when we go to Europe, "it'll be here next time." Plus that gives you a good reason to come back. Enjoy your trip, and try to stay out of seedy downtown areas at night, you don't want or need that trouble.

If your into big cities, I'd recommend New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Las Angeles, Seattle or San Francisco.
If your into beaches I'd recommend Miami / Ft. Lauderdale, Outer Banks, NC, San Diego, Los Angeles, or Hilton Head, SC.
If your into nature I'd suggest the National parks Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Death Valley, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, or Shenandoa.
We have so many different things to see in this country. I myself am a fan of hiking the National Parks. It is such a beautiful land. But it all depends on what you want to come here to see.
Have a fun trip!

Go to New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and if you enjoy entertainment, Las Vegas. But there are bad neighborhoods in every big city. Just make sure to stay in the tourist districts and pick pockets are not as common in the US as in Europe or other destinations. But San Francisco is probably one of the safest cities of those i have listed.

Well America's a very huge and diverse country. I would chose places to visit according to what interest you most. Safety I feel is subjective. You should always be aware of your surroundings with that being said, I live in a major city and most of the tourist I see go to places that are "touristy" and don't usually venture off to non-tourist areas of the city.

Alaska is pretty safe. No huge gang problems. No poisonous animals. Just mosquitos. Which I love! Alaska is also a pretty state. I lived there until I moved to L.A.
