I am interested in this Coach bag, and the seller claims it is authentic and it comes with a serial number. It is brand new with the tags attached, but the current bid is $30, everyone knows that the purse is at least $200 brand new. So if it authentic, why such a low price?

You have to look at a seller's feedback. If a seller has sold hundreds or thousands of items and hardly anyone has given them negative feedback, then it's likely that they're selling what they say they're selling. You have to use your common sense. Someone who's brand new to eBay with unbelievable deals on "authentic items" - they might be authentic but I'm not going to take a chance until they've established a track record of smooth transactions.

The seller must have started the bid low knowing that people won't bid if the starting price is high. Too much chance of a high winning cost. Look at it and see if there is a reserve. It will say "Reserve Not Met" in blue under the bid amount.
They can sell things low on eBay because they bought it cheap. Let's say they got it at a yard sale in their area for $10. They can sell it for $15 and make a 50% profit. That's a huge profit margin. It could be used, it could come from a outlet because of an imperfection, like stitching is crooked.
If they sell a cheap item claiming it's real, they are breaking the law. It's called fraud and over the internet it's a federal offense. Most sellers are honest. Look at their feedback, that's what it's there for. If the seller has high feedback, they buy from them. If not, maybe keep on looking for that bag elsewhere.

people like to bid, so starting with lower numbers actually drives the price up in the end. Also they may have a reserve that they won't sell it for less than anyway. Sometimes people get things for gifts so it doesn't matter what price they pay for it. If it has the serial number and there are pictures then you just have to trust that it is real. I haven't bought any bags, but I have sold designer bags and I had to tell buyers to trust me and give them all the information I could. Don't bid until the last few minutes - chances are you'll see the price go up and if you bid before you will just drive interest and the price!

The bid will probably go up as the auction continues. It may be new. You really need to check their feedback and see what other people wrote about buying similar items from them. If you are truly worried about authenticity but still want the item.....go ahead and bid. If you do win be sure to pay with paypal because if the item is not as listed paypal will refund your money to you. The really important thing is to check their feedback!!

Be very careful when purchasing online. If they will provide you the receipt that would be beneficial because if its a real purse they will and should have that. Best of luck. You can buy a knock-off with the tags attached.

Sure. It could be; I have bought authentic things before and at lower prices. It could be a lot of overstock and some people have deals with shops that allow them to sell independently.

no - its probably a knock off.

or it may be authentic if the present owner stole it from its previous owner (purse santcher) and just trying to get a few bucks more out of it.
