"The Smoke Jumpers"... by Nicholas Evans.
It is a fun easy romance summer read..
From amazon.com website:
With fists over their hearts, best friends Connor Ford and Ed Tully shout out "hearts of fire" before parachuting into devastating forest fires to extinguish them. Working side by side in life-threatening circumstances, this unlikely pair (Connor is a Montana cowboy and freelance photographer; Ed is a Chicago musician and would-be playwright) bond through their summer job. Ed's girlfriend, Julia, counsels troubled teens in the Montana wilderness and, though neither one acknowledged it, when Connor and Julia met sparks flew. All three of their lives change irreparably when Julia is trapped in a raging forest fire. Ed becomes blinded during the rescue, and Connor saves Julia. Julia marries Ed out of a sense of responsibility, and a frustrated Connor leaves for years to travel the globe as a war photographer. Although it sounds like an extravagant soap opera, and occasionally feels that way, Evans's (The Horse Whisperer and The Loop) latest novel is about more than just a complicated love triangle. From its opening line, "The important things in life always happen by accident," this is a tale of fate and the search for happiness and self-fulfillment. Conger's strong, clear reading has an edge accentuating the danger of Connor's life, yet at the same time his voice is a source of integrity and calm that anchors the story.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (or any of the sequels) might be something you'd be interested in. They're by Ann Brashares.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer would be another good choice. Bella and Edward are far from your 'typical' couple. True, she's your almost-average girl--though on the clumsy side--but he's a vampire...not that they're classmates know. Full of drama and romance. (And the sequel New Moon is coming out in a few weeks.)
Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld is good too if you're looking for future drama. Tally is a 15 year old who can't wait to turn 16...why???...because she'll receive plastic surgery--like every other sixteen year old in the world--to become pretty. But there is a price to pay for beauty--although no one is letting the secret out--what will Tally do with the truth.

An excellent summer book to read is Judy Blume's 'Summer Sisters' if you haven't read it already. And I just read a yummy sequel to Pride & Prejudice called Mr. Darcy takes a wife, I lent it to my sister and I forget the author's name but it was fun to read and I consider myself an Austen Fan of huge proportions, but I am not so snobby that I cannot enjoy others' creative takes! Summer Sisters is not romance per se, but about that cruel/love/hate relationship you can have with your best friend...

I rather liked Northanger Abbey. If you want a more detailed answer, you might try asking The Book Lady (http://www.wordsonus.com/feedback/feedback.html) -- she writes essays about books for certain times of year like Christmas, October, etc. There are also some good suggestions elsewhere on her site.

"The Last Time They Met", by Anita Shreve. Very sad and sweet, with a killer twist ending.
