You can try a substance called CLR (calcium lime and rust). I would use it in a small area first to see if it discolors the countertop. But this is suppose to remove rust stains. If this is happening around your sink, after you get the rust stains out I would take a good silicon sealer and seal around the whole sink

You need Barkeepers Friend. It is a powder and you make a paste of it and spread on the stain, let set 30 minutes, then wash off. You can use this on many things. It even gets rust out of fabric. Treat it the same and throw in with your laundry. It works wonders on stainless steel sinks.
The last can I purchased was at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was less than $5.00 and it seems to last forever. You will never go without it again!

I`m not real sure how Formica is made, but I have heard rubbing aluminum foil over rust will remove it....I would also try Oxiclean. make a paste and let it set on the stain for about 30min.

I read on www.howtocleananything.com that rust is removed using an acid based cleaner like (CLR, white vinegar, etc.) if the stain is real bad maybe you have to go to a professional janitorial store to buy the commercial version of CLR, which I am sure is stronger than the what you would be able to buy in a store like Wal-mart etc.

There is stuff called "Iron Out" and another called "CLR" that are supposed to work. They use Iron Out in home water softeners to get iron (rust) out of the water... CLR is made specifically for cleaning lime and rust deposits but I haven't seen it work. I also just bought the "Mr. Clean "Eraser" which has worked really well on other stains but not sure about rust.

I usually reach for vinegar before bleach, but try leaving a puddle of vinegar on the rust spot. Wipe off with a cloth, then rinse. If that still doesn't do it, try the bleach. Again, leave a puddle of it on the stain for a while if possible. Rinse well.
Hope this works, it has for me!

Try bleach kitchen cleaner, use it diluted and let it sit for a couple of minutes. I use it on my counter tops all the time for kool-aid, coffee and anything else that stains. Hope this helps!!
