When I was a young adult, very many years ago, I thought I was in control of everything. I thought I knew what I was doing and, although I listened to advice I thought I knew better!
As I have aged I realised I should have heeded the advice given to me and took the time to grow up within.
We have all wanted to prove to others that we have grown up and matured and it is only when things go wrong do we realise that we are not as clever or as responsible as we thought.
It isn't a case of not being able to handle their problems, it is being mature enough to accept advice given to them by their elders and knowing when to slow things down and work out their problems mythodically.
People learn by their mistakes and by making the mistakes in the first place it makes us stronger and wiser.
Everyone today is looking for a quick fix. It takes a good head and a lot of maturity to admit when you are wrong and take the time to put it right.
I am now 34 years old and I listen to everyone, never taking anything for granted.

Its part of the maturing process. Developmentally their brains recognize that they are young adults and they look like adults. However, because they lack life experiences they tend to see things too simple and therefore make bad decisions. For example, "sex". They see it as fun and for the most part they know they have to be careful. However, because they lack life experiences they don't realize the emotional burden that having sex can have. In psychology its called the false fable. When young people say, "that can't happen to me, " they really believe that. Many times around prom, high schools will bring a car that was involved in a drunk driving accident to show what can happen. Unfortunately this doesn't matter. Its not until someone is about 20-21 years of age that they can actually analyze situations and understand the magnitude of their decisions.

Unfortunately, being"grown" has become linked to attaining a certain age:18 or 21, and actually has nothing to do with problem solving skills. These skills usually are acquired through experience. Being grown and having the level of maturity to handle ones problems are not synonymous.

Because at that age you want to feel and be independent. You want to feel like you can handle being an adult but in my 20's I learned that being a grown up is not at all what I thought it would be.

Because age is just a number. Just because someone is 18 or 21 or 24 (or whatever) does not make them a mature adult able to handle their lives.

Older adults can't handle their problems either, they may just not be so convinced that they can - experience.

Well, being grown doesn't equate with maturity. Just because someone's older doesn't meant they're smarter.
