Large populations of Muslims in these areas.
But actually this time only 2 were from Birmingham, none were from Leeds, most were from the Southeast.

They're not - one is from Birmingham, none are from Leeds, five are from High Wycombe (near London) and 18 are from London.
Unfortunately the British media is well known for it's London bias.
23 of the 24 people arrested yesterday were arrested in London and the surrounding area but the media described the arrests as having taken place across Britain. They also chose to focus a lot of attention on the one arrest made in Birmingham and the 5 outside London.
Leeds was the centre of attention in the aftermath of the London bombings as that was where 3 of the bombers came from.
In reality, a sizeable majority of all terror suspects are from London. More than half of the 895 people arrested under terrorism laws since 9/11 are from there, a hugely disproportionate number when you consider that 11% of the UK population lives in London. Put another way, a person selected at random from the streets of London is almost 10 times as likely to be a terrorist or terror suspect as one selected from outside London.
So, far from all terrorist suspects being from the Birmingham / Leeds area - hardly any of them are (don't have actual figures but it's probably no more than 10 or 20 out of 895) - it's just the way the British media reports things.

I thought that most of the latest suspects are situated in East London.
It is a bit like asking, "Why are most banks found on the High Street?"
The answer is basically the same to both questions.
It appears that the vast majority of terrorist suspects are Muslim and there is a large contingent in the areas mentioned. Muslims tend to stick together and build communities.
It is regrettable and sad that all Muslims are being dragged into the gutter by the disgusting and misguided acts perpetrated by extremists within their own religion.
It may be fair to say that nearly all terorists are Muslim (certainly in THIS country) but it would not be fair to say that nearly all Muslims are terrorists.
[Oh! And the banks? They too stick with their community, ie. the business community. They go where the businesses go.]

usually they are close together because it's easier to plot, pass out supplies, watch one another's back etc. They usually always stick close when it's close to the countdown.
