Which of these Southern states do you like best? Least? And why? (Okay, so it's an insult to true Southerners to call Kentucky "Southern," but UK is part of the SEC and Jefferson Davis was born there, so I went on and included it.)

Most:
-Texas: It's like a whole other country! What a great state! You have deserts, beaches, prairies, green hills, sprawling lakes, and forests all in the same state. Friendly folks, too!
-Tennessee: friendly, nice scenery, music heritage and history, the Smokies
-Alabama: very friendly, Birmingham is neat, love the beaches
-Georgia: a lot like Alabama, Atlanta has much to offer
-North Carolina: gorgeous mountain scenery

Least:
-Kentucky: some of the rudest, most scroungy and impolite people ANYWHERE. I've lived there, it's AWFUL! Louisville, in particular, is very snooty.
-South Carolina and Arkansas: I'm sure they have a lot of good qualities, but they just struck me as being really dirty. (At least folks in Arkansas are nice, though.)

Oh wait, I forgot: Mississippi rocks, also! Breathtaking scenery, and the people are very friendly and helpful.

1. Alabama. (Sweet home Alabama, Forrest Gump, Great football state, the heart of dixie with mountains in the north and gulf shore beaches in the south. Birmingham gives the metropolitan feel, huntsville gives the high tech space program, friendly hospitality)
2. Georgia (Atlanta is the metropolitan capital of the south and Savannah has that old time southern appeal)
3. Tennessee (Jack Daniels and country music)
4. North Carolina (NASCAR and mountains)
5. Texas (everythings big. BIG SKY, Good Football, but texans often forget that they are American first)
6. South Carolina (Charleston saves the states cultural rating)
7. Kentucky (not so southern, but nice horses)
8. Lousiana (too swampy)
9. Arkansas (no real identity, mixed with kansas, texas, tennessee, missouri)
10. Mississippi (nothing really there but trailer parks)

I've been to all except the Carolina's and have relatives all over the South. I would rate Alabama as the best place to live in the South (born in Northeast AL now I live in Tuscaloosa AL - Southwest) The weather is perfect-- nice hot summers and cold (but not freezing usually) winters. We sit out on the deck & never run the air during the spring & fall.
The price of living is low so we live on an acre of beautiful land with woods behind us and have a brand new house which was purchased for only $140,000 last year. Made $10,000 in equity on our previous house which we only lived in for 5 years- the real estate market is booming. Plus Tuscaloosa is a big city with everything you need- entertainment, great restaurants, malls, etc. & we live 15 min. from that (45 min. from Birmingham). People from AL have pride in their state (well most of them anyway) and are generally very friendly. I have relatives move from Miss. to AL just for the better schools, better economy, etc. Of course there are always the trashy counties that are the exception to the rule but you'll find those anywhere.
Arkansas is my least favorite- the roads seems to be bad, I'm pretty sure they have the highest inbred population:o) and I've heard the educational system isn't the best. Mississippi also has problems with education, economy, etc.
Atlanta area seems to be the snootiest from my experiences, don't know much about Kentucky.
Tennessee is much like AL particularly North AL and it is definately the most beautiful of them all!!!
Texas, also beautiful scenery, friendly people, plenty of great entertainment. (my 3rd favorite after AL, TN).
But, obviously my fav is Sweet Home Alabama...

1. South Carolina (have a great friend there); nice people, laid back atmosphere.
2. North Carolina -very interesting place. pretty, nice people.
3. Texas - cool place. People are friendly. It does irritate me that some people there think that Texas is the only place to live. The rest of us love our homes too.
4. Tennessee - like those mountains.
5. Georgia - great history, wonderful people
6. Mississippi - not really very impressed.
7. Louisiana - not impressed at all.
8. Kentucky - don't care for it. met some nice people there though.
9. Alabama - NO, NO, NO
10. Arkansas - This is last only because never spent any time there.

Well, I was born in Georgia, raised in Texas and went to college in Tennessee. Let tell you what a difficult question you have asked. If I had to chose only one it would be Tennessee, simply because my family is now there. If this were not the case I would chose Texas. It IS a whole other country. Did you know that in their constitution they have the right to secede from the Union and become an independent Nation? When they go I'm goin' with 'em.

Most--NORTH CAROLINA I absolutely love it. It has everything. Beaches, Mountains, Piedmont (flat land, plains). It also has very friendly people. I was born and raised there.

Least--Mississippi--This is were I live now. The weather sucks. The heat and humidity is outrageous, this state has got to be the portal to hell.

Never been to Kentucky, Arkansas, or Texas but the rest are ok.

I live in Texas and have been all my life and I love it here, I could do without the heat though. Most places in Texas are extremely friendly. Even the cities, like Dallas (where I live) is very diverse and open-minded about everything. I haven't seen much hate-crimes.
I would rate the other places but I've never been there.

The most? Louisiana, by far. I want to see the old plantations, and the French quarter for many years.

I hate Texas the most, because of the slang they use, the stupid expressions the use, and because the biggest idiots I know are from there. The people are so snotty and annoying.

Favorite: North Carolina. I've lived here all of my life. I love being close to both the mountains and the beach. I love hearing the James Taylor song Carolina in my mind.

Least : I'd have to agree Kentucky. Yeah they are rude and impolite. Plus they think that because they have (is it 8?) NCAA championships they have the right to dog us... not cool.
