I don't believe that there is honesly enough research on banking cord blood yet to put that much money into it. We did all the paperwork & everything before I talked to my doctor & after we did we din't turn in the papers. We found many doctors who had two completely opposite sides to the banking, we decided to go with ours, who said it was a waste of money. The truth is, nobody knows for sure yet what will happen with this new technology. The banks are extremely expensive (hundreds of dollars a month) with the likely possibility that your child will never use what is banked. I was advised (even by a banking corp that we were signed up with) to not bank unless there is a history of lukemia or other childhood illnesses that run in your family & can be treated by stem cells. I don't know wher you live, but I would call the most local bank to you & find out their rates & ask them all of the information they have *for* the banking & also the info they have *against* it. If they don't give you both sides willingly, don't do it. It's just like doctors & surgery, if they don't give you all the options, get a second opinion. Good luck.

It basically only helps if your family has any history of blood diseases

and more than likely (9 out of 10) your baby wont be able to use his/her own cord blood

only another family member will basically benefit

its about 200-400 for them to collect the blood and about 75-150 storage fee..monthly

so look at it this way maybe 2 years or maybe 30 years down the lie someone in your family may need it or maybe not

so if your family has no history of blood diseases in their blood line(go back a few generations maybe 3-4) then maybe you should pass

but if they do like sicle cell or leukemia then maybe its best to save the blood

There are three wives tails i heard and made sure i did two of them....

1. When the cord falls off make sure you burn every bit till there is nothing left... The out come if you dont do it is you will never raise the baby if you dont something will happen....

2. Put pillows on the floor and let your baby roll off the couch by them self or they will have trouble walking....

3. A baby cant see there reflextion in the mirror till 1... or will have problems cutting teeth... i believe this one its the only one i didnt do and she did have trouble cutting teeth... got her first tooth at 14 months....

I did all the rest cuz i didnt want to take any chances.... i'm supersticious

They just did a story on this in the news, and they said that most of them time the cord blood isn't useful. One family was saying that their son had some disease and when they went to use the cord blood, it was infected with the same disease and they couldn't use it. The story was saying that it was really a waste of money. It was kind of one sided. but I decided not to bank my daughters cord blood.

I would do some research on that. Last I checked into it it was very expensive and there was no government regulation on the banks. Who knows if they will bankrupt in 5 years and you will be left with no cord blood and a lot of out of pocket money.

Its expensive to stor the cord blood. You might want to look into it where you live, and how much it costs...I seem to recall it was about 300/month

it could be realy helpful in the long run. It is true. They discover new things every year so I guess if you have the money to keep it do it.

Especialy if you have a sick person w leukemia or other blood diseases.

We have researched it, will not be doing it. Too expensive and doesn't help like all the ads advertise.

I know it is great to save but for me and my husband it is just to expensive to do. It is worth it if you can afford it, trust me I wish we could.
