I would think it comes from the roots of our language. For example German neun, zehn, elf, zwolf, drizhen,vierzhen(9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14). hope that answers your question.

How about eleventeen and twelveteen... not tenteen and twenteen

No eleven should be: Firsteen
And twelve should be: Secondteen

Because eleven and twelve are "pre-teen" ages.....They're not supposed to be teen ages. They are the "tweens"
