it's not the three investigators,boxcar mysteries,encyclopedia brown, or trixie belcon. The titles usually had something like the tomb,pendulum,clock...it had an old professor and usually one kid solving the mysteries.

Is it the series written by John Bellairs featuring boy detective Johnny Dixon?

Maybe the series is the Trixie Beldon books. 7 teenagers solve cases and help the cops. It's set in the Hudson River area north of New York City.

The Three Investigators series was writen in around the same time period as the books you mentioned. I enjoyed them quite a bit when I was younger.
