Depends on where you are coming from? Are you the publisher or editor of said mag?

Basically the objective is to sell the featured products to the consumers thus keeping your avdertisers happy and the ad revenue coming into the mag.

Images tap into our emotive buying desires and help to hook a prospective customer a little deeper. Also the greater the pagination the more space you have to see display ads on the back of the page.

Photography, obviously, because it is easier to see an image than read a description of it. Very short titles under the picture, to point out things that may not be familiar to readers.

I don't see it as either-or. There are two elements of a successful piece. The photos, to be sure, are the first thing to capture our attention. But now that we are attuned to the article, it is very important that the writing is full of accurate and timely information, and tells a compelling story.

A great magazine (Architectural Digest, for example) is known for both.

I prefer a picture for things like homes and interiors, it can be hard to visualise exactly from description... also not everyone has a vivid imagination and the visual cue will get the meaning across

I know what's more important in a Playboy magazine but I'm not sure in a Homes and Interiors magazine. What do others think?

Majority photographs as you need to see what the ideas look like rather than read about it. Obviously writing to breifly say what can be seen in the pictures to accompany the photos

Photography. It's about the look. Not about the description of a look.
