Sounds like you need a brusher-up course on the different ways to make cloth. Although I know you probably wanted to try weaving with a loom, did you know that there are affordable knitting machines that are very much like a loom in terms of speed and ease of use?

You should probably have told us a little more about why you wanted to make cloth in the first place to help us help you decide about buying a loom. Are you a fashion designer? Then yes, of course, it's worth the investment, but if it's for personal use or just a hobby, maybe you could be satisfied with making a friend in the business of weaving and ask if you can help or watch for fun.

I have personally always wanted to make a friend with someone in Issey Miyake's APOC design line, someone with access to his patented looms. His work has inspired me at times enough to make me want to emulate him, too.

There's also crochet, and felting, which is kinda like particle board if you think about it. And beyond that, you would have to learn to be a textile engineer to figure out how to make any synthetic or blends.

Good luck, and I hope your mission becomes clear!

there are small looms that are not expensive that are available. You might also be able to make your own simple loom.

but if you want to try larger projects, consider finding a teacher who will let you use his/her loom for practice.

(I don't weave but my older sister used to. I knit and I have a knitting loom, also called a knitting frame or knitting rake, and they're very different).

You would only need a loom if you wanted to weave something. If you want to knit something try knitting needles (low cost) or a knitting machine (big bucks!)

If you really want to start knitting go to a fabric store or look in the crafting section in almost any store and look at some of the new to knitting start kits.. My daughter is a teenager and just getting in to things like that and I get her start kits to mess with in some of her free time.. Shes gotten pretty good. They have all kinds of kits that come with everything you need to start out and learn how.. from step by step instructions to the needles and yarn.. good luck and have fun with it.
