I was just going through baseball stats and noticed Manny's career stat line that read like this:

.316 Avg, 2049 Hits, 435 Doubles, 467 HR's, 1505 RBI's, .410 OBP and .601 Slugging.

Do you think he'll reach a career stat line of : .300+ Avg, 3000 Hits, 500 Doubles, 500 HR's and 2,000 RBI's

Would he be the first player ever to reach these stats??

He'd be the second, after Hank Aaron, to reach those numbers. Of course, he also plays in a much easier offensive environment than did Aaron. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of things like, "He's one of only five guys to do blah, blah, blah," because you can come up with things like that for anyone.

I don't think Manny is the best ever, but I believe that he doesn't get enough attention for what he's done in his career. Ortiz gets all the love right now in Boston, but Manny is the one who will be going to Cooperstown. The media also pick on Manny a little for his goofiness, apparently finding that more important than his great play.

He's not the best ever, but he's headed for the Hall of Fame shortly after retirement. Great player, great teammate, and a guy that I would love to have on my team.

What about Babe Ruth's stat line?
.342 Avg, 2,873 hits, 506 doubles, 714 HR's and 2,213 RBI's.
Also, Manny can't come even close to Hank Aaron's stats.
.305 Avg, 3,771 hits, 624 doubles, 755 HR's and 2,297 RBI's.

You can call Manny one of the best players of his era or say he's a great player, but to say he's the best ever is an insult to the players above (the stats prove it).

I think craigs (hope I got that right) really knocked this question out of the park:

Yes, that stat line is achievable, and shows Manny to be an easy HOF choice, as well as one of the great offensive players of the last 25 years, maybe in the history of the game. But, my sense of baseball history would suggest that there might be 25-30 better position players in the history of the game, including Ruth, Mays, Aaron (I won't say Bonds because of other issues), Williams, Gehrig, F. Robinson, Mantle, DiMag, Musial, Honus Wagner, etc.

There is some guy named Hank Aaron who managed that career line. The only other guys to have 2000 RBI were Babe Ruth and Cap Anson - Ruth is short on the hits and Anson on the HR.

Given his age (34), it will be a stretch for Manny to get to the 3000 hits and possibly the 2000 RBI. I don't think he'll manage it.

No. He end on the red Sox and that i dispised him for that. i'm no longer a Sox fan in spite of the undeniable fact that it is an intense low for a participant - yet I forgave him. Now, he cheats baseball with the aid of sorting out functional for a steroid he did not imagine become on the banned record?!? can't he verify or say 'no well being care specialist, i do not opt to omit 50 video games.' I mean, rediculous. a lot of human beings disliked Manny yet a tremendous variety of followers beloved him, inspite of each and every of the incidents. yet now he cheated the game, the followers, and maximum significantly, the Dodgers. ugh.

No, he's not. He's an average outfielder at best. The best ever needs to be more than a power hitter. He's playing in a time of diluted pitching in a hitter's era. Steroids, shrinking parks that are bulit to promote offense. I'd like to Manny on a steady diet of Gibson, Drysdale and Koufax.

He one of the better ones in this era but not the best ever...

No Yaz was better all around. Played everyday 110 % . He never played lazily like Manny does.

And he didn't grandstand his homers like Manny.

Plus Yaz was one of the last players to win the triple crown. Batting Average, RBI's and Homers

Stats or no stats. It's about heart

No I am sure that he will not be the first player to reach those stats. I believe that best hitter ever was Hank Aaron but that is my opinion. The numbers speak for themselves.

I am getting so sick of these neophytes who say that Ramirez and David Ortiz are the greatest clutch hitters the Red sox ever had. I guess these idiots never heard of Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, Carlton Fisk, Carl Yastrzemski and some obscure fellow named TED WILLIAMS!

The best ever because he's compiled that statline playing primarily in Cleveland and Boston, in stacked lineups, and in hitters parks?

Ask Jim Rice how much the Hall of Fame voters respect guys who hang numbers in Fenway Park.
