Obviously one of the best ways to prepare for basketball is to practice during what's left of the summer. Run alot--I prefer on a treadmill, ride a bike, go for a little walk, etc.

As far as dieting goes, just try to stay away from fatty foods, and eat lots of fruits and veggies!!! ;)

Instead of just shootin around do drills where u do spot shooting, or elbow to elbow shooting, or even 5 around the arc shots. In between drills make sure to shoot 10 free throws. Coaches love players who hit from the charity line. Do sprints and stairs. Running long distance isnt a bad idea either. Practice with a partner so u can work on 1-1 defense and offense.Do warm up dribbling and ball handling drils like figure eight, between the legs, spider dribble, crossovers, triple threat etc .Cut the fats out of ur diet and eat lots of PB & J .GET INTO A ROUTINE. Keep hoopin and have fun.

Be sure to do long distance running, but don't forget about wind sprints!(Think about all the times you run up and down the basketball court during a game.) Also, try to improve your leaping ablility by jumping on a trampoline. Stay away from junk food and drink plenty of water. And don't forget to be playing basketball.

Me and you are in the same boat, im training right now for my senior year and what i have been doing is going to basketball courts getting pick up games they really help your stamina. After that i go home at night . Make at least 20 foul shots. 20 jumpshots from left and right.. 20 layups left and right. than just practicing dribbling and crosovers.
Music always is good!

ok thisn is what I do:
dribbling around each leg
figure 8
wrap arounds
drops (drop ball in middle of leg, catch it)
pound ball in each hand at least 50 times
dribble between legs
crossovers

Shooting
20 right handed lay-ups
20 left handed layups
20 free throws
20 outside shots

try it! my uncle showed this to me and his daughter is the best basketball player on her collage team! if you dont believe me, go to boise state site and under basketball Jessica Thompson is there!
