Okay, I understand what you are saying, but don't you think it's wrong to say a baby is growing in your stomach?

because that's the general area of the body that the baby grows,,from the hips to the boobs,,the baby comsumes that whole area and we tend to call that area stomach. that's like when people say they can't button their pants''my stomach is too big..''...its not the stomach its the waistline that has grown,,same slice of pie,,,,,,

Because in the common vernacualr, people often say "stomach" to refer to the general abdominal area, like "tummy". Women don't really think that the baby is growing inside their stomach... at least I always assumed that nobody was that dim. Anyway, it's just an expression. I've never heard anyone complain "Since I got pregnant, my uterus is getting so big!"

because the womb is inside the same area and your stomach does grow from more then just the baby

FYI: "the womb" is not an actual part of the body. It's just another-easily digestible-term that refers to the area in which you carry the baby. If you can't say uterus, then why should they have to.

I told my son that his sister was in my uterus...and exactly where she was going to come out of. Most people are not comfortable saying that to their children. Many are not comfortable alluding to their private parts in public.
There is nothing wrong with that.

Just an approximated expression.. the same as "getting a big head" doesn't actually mean expansion of the skull.. or "butterflies in the stomach" etc.

Generalization so everyone understands. The "womb" is to medically defining for "the children" to understand. Like the soon to be brother or sister...

Because, as far as external appearance, the part of her figure that is expanding is the part that we refer to as the belly, waist, tummy, or stomach.
Like when you say you have a headache--well, your skull isn't aching, your hair isn't aching, so why not say you have a "neck muscle ache?"
Or why call it a black eye, when it's really a "bluish purplish skin surrounding my eye?"

stomach is more polite.
Also people refer to stomach as not only the internal organ but the exterior area below the sternum and above the pubic area.

because their stomach is getting bigger. We refer to that area as the stomach. I have heard atheists' say "oh my god" they don't believe in a "god" they say it out of habit. "Monkey see monkey do"
