There are several factors to consider as you develop your budget. A replacement system is far less expensive than a first-time system. Most of your numbers here have assumed that you have existing electrical, refrigerant piping and ducting, but if they do not already exist, they are big-ticket items.

Assuming your home is 1500 square feet, and reasonably well- insulated, you would probably get a three-ton system, at a cost ranging between 3-5 thousand dollars. The 2 reasons for the big swing in price is competition and efficiency.

The competitive price may be offered because the company is new, but does a great job; or there may be some other not-so-good reasons. Always do your homework before selecting a contractor.

The efficiency drives cost upward because of the increased cost in manufacturing. However, with long-term financing, a super-high efficiency unit is often a bargain, because of the great savings on your utility bill, which often is more than the payment on the equipment. Your contractor should be able to provide you with the estimated utility savings with the various degrees of efficiency.

If you are installing a/c for the first time, here are some ball-park add-on costs to consider:

1. Ducting: $2000-$3000
2. Refrigerant piping: $200-$500
3. Electrical wiring : $300-$400 with no service upgrade
$1000-$2000 with an upgraded panel

If you have a average price boiler and 8 radiators then I would suggest that you should be looking at about 3 - 4 Thousand but it is much like buying a car you can have a small cheap car or an expensive one so get a few quotes at least 4 and see how much you can save.If you get the first quote ask them to list the work they are suggesting them when the other plumbers visit to look at the house tell them you would like them to price the same boiler and same number of rads that way all the quotes should be comparable.
A big must is make sure you have gas in the house as this can cost a lot to get installed & make sure all the gas work is carried out by corgi registered plumbers.

All in you should be able to get it done for a couple of grand. Also check out government websites as you may qualify for a grant depending on the age of the property. They will also supply a grant for doing loft insulation. It may only be a couple of hundred quid but better than nothing.

If you are in Britain, you should think of about £2500 as average. If you have a combination boiler, it will be quicker to install, but there is WAYYYY more to go wrong, and WAYYYYYYYYY more expense in getting repairs done.
