2 possibilities:
You have stress or some other psychological causing it.
Or
Just plain poor sleep will cause nightmares. Some causes are:
Sleep apnea, having caffeine before bed, Restless leg syndrome, being to hot/cold, noisy environment, going to bed hungry etc. In this case, it's a chicken or egg sort of thing. Bad sleep may be causing the nightmares, not the other way around.

There are a number of reasons people have nightmares. It could be related to any drugs you are taking - some drugs are known to do this such as antidepressants. Also are you taking and herbs or vitamins. You may want to try taking them in the AM. Also are you under stress or worried. See if you can try and work through any issues you have during the day so you can be more restful at night.

Dreams are rapid eye motions you have and they normally stem from things you mind thinks sub consciously. So if you want to stop dreaming about these things your mind will have to completely forge about them on it's own and try not going to sleep until your beat and have taken a shower and had a pleasant conversation or movie just to make sure you don't leave time for you to lay idol trying to fall asleep!

Its petered down ever since, though once in a while they do come to keep me company. Just beleive u can get rid of it...the method doesnt matter!

Lucid dreaming was going to be my answer. Most bad dreams stem from sort of fear. It could be a subconscious fear. Rationalize and try to understand any fears you have. Do you feel like someone is going to rape you? Knowledge and understanding is the greatest form of comfort. If you can begin lucid dreaming, demand control of what's going on.

You probably need to address the root cause of your nightmares. What is it exactly that is bothering you? If you can figure that out, you can probably do something about it. Also, when you go to sleep, think about something very pleasant and relaxing while you go to sleep and see if that helps. Pleasant dreams!!!
