When the term was first applied, the only major league was in America.
Even now, the best players are playing in major league baseball, with all but one team still based in the United States. Undoubtedly, the club that wins the World Series every year would be able to beat any team from Japan, Cuba, or any other country with organized baseball. Hence, no reason to change the name. Also, from a marketing perspective, it would be a terrible idea.

Because basball was invented in the states. I think they should have a world league, that would be cool. Oh, and to comment on what someone said above; I don't agree that the winner of the wolrd series could beat any baseball team in the world. There's no way man. It's an opinion though so you're entitled, however you are wayyyyy wrong.

Because Not many countries are in to baseball like Americans are they are more focused on sports like Soccer . wrestling, weightlifting , and other sports while Americans still compete in those sports just not like the other countries. So basiclly if teams from all over the "world" came to a world series First of all there the teams would most likely be terrible and there would be only a few.

Because some think that the world revolves around the US. Or because we invented baseball. Anyways it should be the North American Series not the World series.

this has been asked. the World News (of NYC) started the series. The name has nothing to do with the world meaning all countries.

it came about in the 30's. and later on in the 40's when the radio broadcasts were finally strong enough to reach outer space.
the president and his cabinet decided that any aliens listening in to the games, would be more scert of our teams if they were the champions of the earth instead of just America.
