There is no substitute for those words, the most emotionally charged words in the Engish language.
But - if you want to try, rather than saying another expression, perhaps a look and body language are more appropriate. It is what you do not what you say. What you want to do is communicate Love, how you do you it is unimportant, but simple is better, hence why the words 'I Love You' are best, and why saying something other than that is lesser, while acting out something is equal to or greater.

Hmmm... actually even saying I LOVE YOU cant satisfied our dobtful feelings ...and our romantic moods...
I guess, a magical softly touch in the hands or face , a warm look into the eyes and a charming smile are the simple ways or personal expressions that make our love ones feel that they are being loved...

By enjoying doing something thoughtful for some who would appreciate your doing so whether or not they knew they needed you to do that. Nothing cutzy or clever...no words, it could be just some minor little thing.
The word love. .is an overused, misused, and loose term in today's world and confused with sex...and so it has no meaning to me. My pups don't talk...but I am sure they love me...and I them..

Staring straight into his or her eyes and that too with a smile. I did the same thin before i proposed to my wife some years back. She instantly understood because our eyes did the talking not our lips or mouths. Also try to smile a lot when you speak to your lover. It helps. Its gestures like these that need to be appreciated by us. Love is very wonderful thing to happen at any age. All the best and good luck!

my man isnt real good at coming right out and saying i love you.
he brings me flowers, we spend hours just talking about nothing.
he watches the kids while i take a nap
he fixes breakfast a lot
he cooks me dinner
he washes the dog
he does the weed eating
he grew me tomatoes from tiny plants because i love tomatoes.
he is good to me in a lot of ways. he even makes the bed when he is the last one out of it.

A day without you is like a day without the sun. Cold and dark.
