If you just found out you were pregnant, and you were a haibitual pot smoker, but now you find out you're a month pregnant, what harm could be done? Please no one post anything about irresponsibility, and how bad of a person i am, or how bad pot is...that's just a waste of your words because i won't read them...i'm just curious is someone can be honest, has anyone ever smoked pot or done anything like that during the beginning of your pregnancy, before you found out you were pregnant? Now that i know i'm pregnant, i'm not smoking anything anymore.

since you say habitual pot smoker you should be very honest with your doctor and let them know. They can do tests to see if anything is wrong with the baby so you know what you are expecting at birth.
There is not a lot of studies done to see what affect pot has on an unborn child but rest assured you will wonder your whole life if smoking pot was the cause of your childs sinus problems, poor eyesight, spina bifida or ADHD symptoms. The list could go on and on and can be slight to severe. The first month is crucial in getting the nutrients your baby needs so I hope that you ate well and will continue to eat well so the baby will have a good chance of being healthy.

I smoked pot the first few months when I was pregnant with my son. I stopped when I found out I was pregnant. I had an easy pregnancy and a very quick delivery (he was born in the car on the way to the hospital). He is now 23 years old. Don't worry. Just stay off the pot for good. I did.

Depending on how much you smoke before you knew you were pregnant as to how it could harm the baby. Honestly, I've had a lot of friends smoke pot then quit a few months into their pregnancy and nothing was wrong with there kids. However, maybe they just got lucky. As long as you stop then your baby should be fine.

You have to remember one main thing. Anything and everything you take into your body, that baby is taking in as well. Pot, cigarettes...they cut off oxygen. Oxygen is needed for your baby's growth, for the best development. There is really no telling how bad the damage can be, wether your child would come out undersized, and yes that can be a definate problem, or mental retardation. They can come out with lung problems. But if you seriously want a healthy child and pregnancy, then your best bet is to be as healthy as you can be. And if you plan on breastfeeding, it still works the same way, everything you take in will come through your milk. I quit smoking for my frist pregnancy, and afterward while I was trying to breastfeed, I had a cigarette, and the milk that came afterwards smelled bad, and had a nasty color to it. Giving up pot, really isn't that hard. But you need to find something else to occupy yourself. Distraction is the best. Take up a hobby, because it really does help.
I say this because I used to do it. It takes effort, and strength, but when you consider the results and long-term outcome...it's definatly worth it.
Good luck!

I didn't do this but I am a high school teacher and I know several students of mine who got pregnant as teens and they have. One girl smoked up all the way through her pregnancy and was very upset and talked to me about it once a few years after her baby was born. She was going through a very hard time when she got pregnant (the father of her baby died near the beginning of her pregnancy). She often talks about having "woken up" after her son was born and realizing that she could really have harmed him before he was even born, changed her life. She is drug free now and is living a good life. Her son is fine, despite the danger and risk she took.

I think there are of course risks, and whatever damage that has possibly been done, is already done. You already know that.

The best thing you can do is what you have already done...quit, and give your baby your very best for the rest of this pregnancy....get adequate sleep, nutrition and exercise. Treat your baby as best you can while you are pregnant and your body is nuturing baby's developing cells and body.

After he or she is born, never lie about the fact that you used a little bit during the very beginning of your pregnancy, even if it is embarassing or uncomfortable for you. If a doctor ever asks, tell the truth because it might help them figure out how best to help your baby if there is a problem later on. Make yourself aware of some of the potential problems a baby exposed to THC in the womb might have....and be prepared to assist your child with those problems IF they occur. Give your baby the best start you can, by reading to him or her and getting them engaged with books and music as EARLY as possible....do you know a child should have heard over 5000 stories by the time they enter kindergarten to have the best possible start at school?

Now is your chance to do your BEST for your baby. Take this chance and keep going. Congratulations on giving up pot now....please keep going with this choice for the sake of your baby. There is a very good chance baby will be just fine as long as you keep putting his or her health and development at the top of your priority list!

Good luck!

i don't think that much harm will be done to your baby at this point just as long as you quit doing it for the rest of your pregnancy you should have a healthy baby. i don't smoke pot anyways but i did drink. i just found out that i am pregnant again but i never drank while i was pregnant and didn't know it because mainly me and my husband were trying to conceive so i knew not too.....i hope that you have a healthy pregnancy and baby...congrats and good luck!

I'm glad that you care about your babe enough to stop smoking anymore.Good job!I've never tried smoking pot and neither have i gotten pregnant yet.Needless to say, have i landed in your kind of situation but all i know that smoking pot can certainly complicate pregnancy. For instance, you can experience internal bleeding that may clot in your womb and cause very serious harm to your foetus. This may even kill your month-old foetus or cause retardation.Well,i can't help much but i've done abit of research for you.Click any of the url below.

I do not know what effects it has on a baby. I could not tell you that. But most women do not find out that they are pregnant until they are about 6 weeks anyway and they carry on with their social lives. Drinking, smoking cigarettes and there is no harm. I mean I do not think that you have anything to worry about. But if you are really that concerned about it ask your doctor.

During the first month of pregnancy, I was told by my dr. that God planned for mothers to be irresponsible, and that the things that were formed in the first month were not the "delicate" works. That's a simplified version (because he was talking about when the neurological system formed, etc), but there you have it.

I have known people who smoked throughout their entire pregnancies, and their kids are decidedly "slower".

Just make sure you continue to take care of yourself and your baby through the rest of the pregnancy.

i smoked with my son very early in pregnancy "before i knew". HE was also premature i only smoked like 4-5 times before week 5 when i found out! He dose have issues now he's slow learning & has speach problems "maybe not related we'll never know." NOT judging you at all heres what i found online. Any drug of abuse can affect a mother's health during pregnancy, and this is a time when she should take special care of herself. Drugs of abuse may interfere with proper nutrition and rest, which can affect good functioning of the immune system. Some studies have found that babies born to mothers who used marijuana during pregnancy were smaller than those born to mothers who did not use the drug. In general, smaller babies are more likely to develop health problems.

A nursing mother who uses marijuana passes some of the THC to the baby in her breast milk. Research indicates that the use of marijuana by a mother during the first month of breast-feeding can impair the infant's motor development (control of muscle movement).
