The benefits of marriage are all legal. To many of us, marriage is only about a piece of paper. It doesn't make the emotional commitment any more binding.

But in the eyes of the law, if you are not married you miss out on a number of benefits. Examples include your spouse's pension plan, social security benefits, joint income tax filing, ability to be covered under your spouse's insurance plan at work, legal right to oversee medical care if your spouse becomes ill (you are not recognized as the next of kin, and some hospitals won't even let you in the room with your significant other if you are not the spouse), etc...

Marriage is a legal contract that offers protection to the people involved in it. In today's society where women and men have a relative equal footing in the work place, women do not need the protection of marriage as was need in the past.

There are still 5 states in America that legally require marriage for people of the opposite sex to live together. Kind of funny when you think about it. Heterosexual couples are not allowed to live together, but can get married. Homosexual couples can live together, but can't get married. "Hmmmmmm....."

Ok, I digressed. Benefits of marriage are few in these days. It offers legal protection for spouses in the event of death, and also allows a spouse entrance into a hospital ward if their significant other is ill. Marriage also is a symbol that professes to your community your commitment to your spouse. For some that is very important.

you are only half if u don't get married, God made man and women, as one, than HE found it is not good for man to be alone, so HE did not find a companion from another source but from within man GOD took away the half of the man, and the woman and brought her to the man, to be part of him and to be one with him in every thing. so in marriage you are becoming not two, one that is why, the Bible says what God has united let no one separate, if some of us feel that in marriage become half that is ignorance,

Life with your soulmate. Intimacy with no worries. It's no longer called "unprotected" sex. You build a blissful life with the one you love. You have the chance to start a family. I could go on all day.

You get to spend you whole life with your best friend!! Not only that, you get to have "relations" Sure you could do all that and not acutally have the marriage cert. So the upswing is the tax stuff. :)
