the money is REALLY good, and the job isn't so bad as you might think. Sure, some customers are assholes (haha, no pun intended!), but for the most part the job is quite rewarding and fun. Why can't my parents just accept this about me?

Because society is not ready to accept that as a career prospect nor the Universities want to accept that as a degree! Besides that, though the money may be good , but your life is on the edge...and in the end all that money you made is going to be channeled towards the making of your coffin... Your parents care about you, invested lots of time and efforts into helping you grow up to be a man and stand on your own two feet. You're letting them down, no matter it is your life and you do what you want for yourself.
If my Son wanted to be a whore, I'd be concerned because he would never be able to have an intimate relationship with a wife and kids due to the line of work he chose. Also, that life leads to drugs, bad eating habits, alcohol, more drugs, potential deadly decease and a horrible lifestyle.
