It only ever happens to me when I play a new game for too long in one sitting (like 6-10 hours ^-^) And then what happens is that I continue to play the game in my sleep (very realistic) and when my char dies I wake up (this happens a lot in one night, next day feels like I haven't slept). Thankfully I have only ever done this a handful of times :)
Yeah the good side of this is I wake up knowing how to complete certain levels, it seems to be the subconscious' way of learning the new task you have set it (very useful (shame the skill isn't))
Best advice is to not play to intensely or for so long in one session.

It occurs if you stay focused on a specific game for atleast a week. Stop playing or playing wider variety of games at a time will make such occurence less frequent. It can even happen if it is not related to video games. Dreaming about chess all night after playing it too much was a pain.

If i get stuck on a certain level I have nightmares/dreams until I can figure it out, half the time I have some pretty good solutions to get unstuck in my sleep, but can only remember that i had thought of a way to get around the obstacle when I wake.
My condolences to the chilipepper guy, KH2 didn't give me dreams that bad, but omg.

After a chili pepper binge and 33 straight hours of KH2 I dreamt i was singing karaoke with squal and pete, then cloud and squal fenced each other for the microphone, then goofy came charging over a hill with an entire crusade of knights and raided the salad bar. Don't eat too many chili peppers.

It's strange...I don't dream about them when I'm asleep, but when I'm away from my computer and my mind is wandering, that's when I'll get the mental images of the games. Especially the little online puzzle games.
And major sympathy to the guy who had the Ocarina of Time fairy in his dreams. That's just torture!

Are you falling asleep right after you finish playing? Maybe you need to give yourself some "down time", so that that's not what you're thinking about as you fall asleep. That's when I dream about the games, when I fall sleep right away or something.

Uh, all the time. Try playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time all day. I kept waking up in the middle of the night while I was playing that because I couldn't get Navi to stop saying "Hey! Listen!" in my sleep. Damn near drove me nuts.

It's true that if ur involved in games for long then u do get dreams abt it, or u correlate ur dreams with it...
It wont stay long if u stop playing but it will surely get acute if u continue to game regularly....
