it is probably a sweat rash. babies get them a lot. Take him to your doctor and they should be able to give you some antibiotics to fix it.
Its common and can be treated easily, so take a deep breath and go to the doctor :-)

Hi Heather,
Those "pimples" could be a couple of things--none of them dire from my experience. It is a tough adustment from a "water" environment to an air one. Please call your pediatrician, they may be able to help you over the phone before you have to go in.
I am not a doctor. Use your good instincts--even as a new mom. You can try a few things at home that will be harmless but may help.
1. The bumps could be infant acne-like other acne, except it is usually temporary. When you bathe baby use products for sensitive skinned babies. Cloth wash the face with a tiny dab on the wash cloth so you won't get it in baby's eyes--rinse well.
2. They could be "prickly heat" an old expression meaning a heat rash try some cool cloths (not too cool to make baby uncomfortable).
3. There is a third thing--which my son has. I cannot remember the name of it, but it has to do with the hair follicles and keratin. Not harmful to him in any way. His bumps are still there and they gave a us a lotion--when he was older--that didn't do much. He said they didn't bother him (they are small and don't grow big like a pimple), so we do not lotin them anymore.
I understand your alarm and desire to know something right away.
Get to know your pediatrician. If you do not like how they respond to your worries, get another one. I had 3, and I have been with the last one for 12 years. A Pedi who knows the Mom has the best info on the baby is someone a mom can really work with--well. I liked my first one, but had to change due to location. I had another one that talked down to me when I brought my son in for bug bites. They did not look like any I had gotten before (he had allergic reactions) and he had not had the Chicken Pox yet (before vaccine) so I thought they were Chicken Pox.
Anyway, when you have a good relatinship with the Pedi, you can accomplish a lot with a phone call. Some info to know for every call:
Is there fever?
How long has the condition presisted?
Have there been any changes to the condition during this time?
Is the baby sleeping as usual (for him/her)?
How much fussing, waking, or discomfort is the condition causing the baby?
Having ansers ready for a busy doctor improves your relationship with him/her.
Hope this helps.

This sounds like Baby Acne - my 3 month old developed spots all over his face, arms and back. It's cause isn't really understood, but it's thought that the hormones passed through the placenta at birth can aggrivate the condition, as can hot and humid weather. The best thing to do is just wash him with plain water twice a day - don't use any lotions or potions as these really won't work and may just result in drying the skin out. It'll clear up as quickly as it developed - usually in 2 or 3 weeks. Remember - if it doesn't bother him, don't let it bother you. I know it's hard to see your beautiful newborn covered in spots - but they will go and they won't scar.

my 2 yr old had the same thing when she was about 5-6 weeks old. Our pediatrician said to apply a little bit of 0.5 hydrocortisone. You should see results in a few days. Make sure you do not use soap to wash your baby's face, arms, and neck. Just water until the pimples go away.

My Baby girl had the same thing it's called baby acne they get it when they are 5 weeks and up it's because it's hormones that are still in the baby's systems, my doctor said don't pop them and don't put anything on them they will go away within the month, however do wash them, when you give a bath. Don't worry the baby will have a clear complexion soon.

This is probably baby acne. It will go away. Our first child had it pretty badly. She even had what looked like white heads all over her nose. It went away too.
If it is just red blotches, it might be Roseola. Small babies get that if they've had a little fever. This is nothing to worry about either. It will go away too.
If your really worried though, go to a doctor visit or call and talk to your doctors nurse over the phone. There might be a slight charge, our doctor charges $12 for a nuse consultation over the phone, but peace of mind is a wonderful thing and worth the price for your child.

it is normal. Is it hot where you are? It could also be a heat rash. If not then it could also be a viral infection (which isn't serious). My pediatrician told me to make sure the baby stays cool when it is hot and give the baby .3 milligrams of children's tylonal. It will keep the baby calm and if it is a viral infection then it would go away in a week if you give the babay the tylonal one time a day for a week. I would hydrocordozone for a heat rash first and if that isn't showing results then take the baby to the doctor and make sure it is not a viral infection.

That sounds like all 3 of my kids when they were babies.I think the best thing to do is consult your doctor. They have a cream they can use for a baby that young.Be careful of detergents that you may use on your baby.No soap on that area that may irritate the skin. Those pimples are normal. If you question it go see a doctor just to be on the safe side.I advise you to use a baby detergent,Snuggle or something without the harsh bleaches and chemicals.

you don't do anything but your normal cleaning of the baby..they are little white heads. and all babys have them to some point.. some have more and some have more than others.. after bath of your baby use the baby lotion and just keep him or her clean and dry they will go away..
It is a good question i asked it too when my kids were first born.
just take a wet warm cloth and keep there face clean..don't waste your money on a doctors appt.. you will have better reasons for that.. congrats on the baby and hope you are very happy... good luck

This is totally normal - it's called baby acne - and my baby had it around that time also, for a few weeks. It will clear up on its own within a couple of weeks. But if you're concerned, try eliminating cows milk and refined sugar from your diet (if you're breastfeeding). The most common allergies in newborns are those two, and they get them through your milk.

that's baby acne. i know it doesn't look good, but it will go away on its own. just do not scratch or squeeze them because then you can make scars that would look even worse than the pimples themselves. Just keep baby's face clean (sometimes drool and milk can clog the pores and cause that too) and they will go away on their own. no need to freak out about it.
