I am four months pregnant with a so far healthy baby. The one problem I have is that I have trouble eating. Food has just lost its appeal and flavor. I haven't gained any weight and I'm a little concerned. If I don't eat, the baby doesn't eat. Don't get me wrong, I DO eat. Just not a lot. Any Advice?

I can soooo relate! I'm only 10 weeks. But I seriously hate food right now. I find myself becoming hungry but I cannot find any food that doesn't turn my stomache. I've been drinking a lot of lime flavored perrier. I can't even handle 7 up or ginger ale--too sweet. This is my third pregnancy and I've not gained any weight and my cheeks look sunken in from where I've lost weight. I always show in my face first.

I try to eat SOMETHING--even if it is just crackers or toast. I've found apple sauce appeals to me and most of the time I can eat plums and watermelon. That is about it.

My sister is going through the same thing. She is now seven months and she has only gained four pounds. She had an ultrasound three weeks ago and they told her the baby was fine. Also, she tested positive for the glucose juice, I don't know if this is the reason why she hasn't gained weight. Her taste buds are completely different from before. With her been diabetic during her pregnancy, they have put her in a strict diet. So far, the doctor has told her that everything is fine, she just need to force herself a little to eat more..

I hope that everything turns out fine.

LOL. Two of my three pregnancies were the same way. One pregnancy I gained a total of 6 pounds, the next, I gained a total of 3 pounds. But, I had body fat to lose, so it was no big deal. My first pregnancy I gained a total of 43 pounds, and never lost it. (That's size 9 up to a size 12.)

Anyway, if you have a little chub to lose, too, don't worry about it. Your body is designed to make sure the baby gets what he needs. Granted, that means that if you're not taking in enough - say - calcium, then it will come right out of your bones, so you WILL want to make sure you're eating at least what you need.

For me, it wasn't appetite so much as it was heartburn and adult spit-up. I had to eat very small portions. I recommend that for you, too. Keep healthy, fresh foods in the fridge so they are handy when you DO feel like snacking. Good examples are: various cheeses and juices, fresh fruit, cups of yogurt, carrots and cut up broccoli, etc., healthy jams like Polaner All Fruit, and so on. Keep these things around, too, after baby is born while you are nursing him. They are an instant pick-me-up and so healthy for you and your baby's milk.

Blessings!

I can relate! Don't worry about gaining weight just yet. When I was in that stage, I was losing weight like crazy, but when it was time to deliver, I found that I had gained 19 kilos. lol. But yes, you're right that you have to eat for you're baby's sake. You could try eating small amounts every two hours or so. Maybe you're already doing that. Even just a couple spoons is good.
Also, try drinking juices instead of plain water. Orange juice fortified with Vit. (not too much), grape juice, etc. You could try drinking a mild apple cider vinegar drink. You mix a little vinegar and honey with water and drink it with your meals. Some people find that this helps to give them an appetite. It might work for you.
Don't worry, the baby being healthy is all that counts. Just try to do your best. My mother in law had twelve children and with all of them the only weight she gained was the babies' weight, but they are all perfectly healthy, so it's all good. Good luck.

I am right where you are! I am at 15 weeks today and I haven't gained anything yet either. I force myself to eat for the baby, but don;t feel like it. My doctor said thing will improve in the 2nd trimester.....
Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

Here in the next couple of weeks believe me you will start gaining weight I am 33 weeks pregnant and I didn't start gaining weight until i was over my morning sickness which was about 4 and half months. Once you get over that you will start gaining weight, but just in case you might need to discuss this with your doctor.

When I was pregnant, I was actually put on a high calorie diet in my seventh month. My daughter was a little over 5 pounds when she was born and I gained only about 20 pounds total.

That's normal, a friend of mine actually lost about 15 lbs around that time and the Dr. said her and her baby were fine.. When I was pregnant I thought my baby wasn't getting enough food either... but he wound up being 9lbs8oz at 40 weeks... dummy me!!
