And George W. Bush is stupid. Not only does he not read, he has positive contempt for people who do read. He really hates people who write their own books as well as read others.
How can she live with that kind of man? I could never live with some one who had such a bitter contempt for my hearts delight.
What do you all think? What sort of bitterness does she choke back each day? Or did she become a librarian not out of a respect for the written word and a desire to help others find joy in it but because at one time it was the path of least resistance and she’s now just as glad to be done with it?
I had no luck with this question in Politics so I thought I'd try it here.
And before you tell me GWB reads a lot, you have to tell me the last three books it's been reported he's read not including the Bible and the Very Hungry Caterpillar. I'd also like some evidence that he understands the themes, meanings, intentions of the writer, big words, in these books.?

I met Laura Bush three times in Texas. Twice was when she gave our library literacy grants to help children learn to love reading. These were from The First Lady Family Literacy Grants (when she was first lady of TX). Although the occasion was a formal presentation, her love of reading and concern for literacy came through warmly in her speech. The other time I met her was when she visited the library and museum in my town.
I'm sure this is not just a persona that she puts on for public events, and that she truly is a librarian at heart.
As the wife of the president, though she has a big commitment to appear in support of her husband. Somehow she works this out and does what is needed. The role hasn't been easy for most First Ladies, I'm sure.

I don't know whether he reads or not. I have to think he doesn't have a lot of spare time. If in fact he doesn't read, I would think that Laura Bush is mature enough to understand that other people have different interests. Certainly "choking back bitterness" is a little over the top. I love to read and watch the news. My husband loves to watch football and reads one book a year. I still love him.

What I would actually like to know is- are there any books in that library... I mean, "Harry Potter" wouldn't be there. No Neil Gaiman books, either, probably. I don't know, maybe they'd sensor Amelia Bedilia. But, I pity the kids who have a Bush as a librarian (that sounds kind of funny). But anyway, I guess one point is that when you sensor everything you do end up stupid because there's nothing left to read.

Whoa there.

"George W. Bush is stupid. Not only does he not read, he has positive contempt for people who do read. He really hates people who write their own books as well as read others."

Have you ever met the man? I haven't and I'm guessing you haven't either.

Whatever you think of him politically, I'm not going to try and double guess what the Bushs' marriage is like, let alone judge either of their reasons for being in it.

Laura Bush is amazingly a lady. i have were given faith she is honest and believes that Mrs. Obama did make a mistake at the same time as she stated what she did. i'm fairly certain that optimal human beings interior the standard public eye misspeak and say themes out of context or make statements which on the instantaneous are literally not precisely what they meant to declare. human beings on the distinct element of the isle gained't furnish those who make blunders, the prospect to suitable their blunders. I do believe that Michelle Obama made this blunders yet, I actually have research diverse her speeches and writings and am no longer prepared to forgive her for those statements because of shown actuality that those were intentional.

Well, I may not have voted for the guy, but it takes a real cold-hearted moron to make such uncalled for speculations based on nothing but your own over-the-top hate of an admittedly poor president.

It always saddens me how opposition to a political figure leads some to be petty and vindictive and renders them incapable of making a cogent political argument. And one wonders why there's so little bi-partisan discussion anymore...
