There is now a direct flight from New York to Dubai on Air Emirates and then from Dubai you can fly on Air Ariana or Cam Air to Kabul. You basically should research the best price to Dubai on Expedia and then you will have to contact Air Ariana or Cam and they will send a paper ticket which you may have to confirm when you receive it. The best price may be to fly to Dubai on KLM though via Amsterdam I think the flight from Dubai is only like $500 max return. Make sure you have a visa though. And when you get to Dubai you have to go to Terminal 2 via taxi to get on Cam or Ariana and you really should be there 3 hours ahead, at least because some times they oversell tickets.
Have fun! When you get to Kabul don't let ANYONE help you with you luggage, they are going to charge you. Sometimes you have to fight them for it. It is very dirty so try and go to the toilet on the plane before you land. Make sure you have someone meet you at the airport as it is a pretty weird place. You really can't believe is before you see it. Oh and stay on the tarmac, don't walk of the grass, it is a mine field. Stay off of grass in general.
