It looks fun, but I can't find out how the game is played. Can anyone help explain the game?

Below are the rules from Unigames's site.

I played it a bunch back around 2001 or so. I thought it was pretty cool but no one else seemed to like it. It plays a lot like chess where you get to pick different pieces. The models themselves kinda suck and the cards which gave out information was just thin paper so I think that turned a lot of people off, but I didn't care... I can't paint well anyways!

Each piece has a cost (total cost of your army must be below a certain threshold), and three main stats. There's Move (how many squares you move in a turn), Attack (how many HP of damage you cause in an attack), and Defense (how many HP you got). Character units also tend to have 1 or 2 special abilities that help out as well.

It's played on a chessboard and you also get an immovable Warchest that you have to protect... basically once you "attack" the opposing Warchest you win. You move two units per turn and it costs 1 Move to go forward a square or to rotate your facing (you can't move sideways without the appropriate ability). Hence, units generally can't go very far unless they go forward so facing is very important. An attack is made by moving into an opposing unit's square, where you do (Attack) damage to them. Damage stays from turn to turn.
