If we are talking movies, I think it depends on the movie. If you are watching a sappy romance drama, probably a happy ending. But if you are watching an action thriller, sometimes it's better when things turn out completely different from what you expected. Everything can't be a happy ending, that would get boring. When the hero, or star doesn't come out on top that makes some of the best movies out there.
