Quite funny question... Although there is no exact way we can find out if they'd enjoy, I still bet they don't. For a reason that cows aren't as intellectual or emotional as the humans to be able to tell that they enjoy. And, they don't eat grass for the reason that there are no other options. It's right, they eat grass because they're herbivores and they couldn't eat meat. But I think cows doesn't have the intelligence to determine whether which grass or which green food has better taste. It's just that, they eat because of survival reasons.

Remember that cows are herbivores. They love to eat grass. Yes, they will eat prepared foods for animals but they will always go back to a good old patch of grass.

NOW(on the flip side) in many modern dairy farms, the cows(particularly dairy cows) do not see a blade of grass.. they are fed a commercial mix feed which consists of dried blood, animal by products, chicken feathers... all ground up and fed as a dairy feed. Yes, the dairy cows eat it and produce great milk.. at the same time.. if they knew what grass was, they would go to the grass fields

well most cows in the united stats eat a 50/50 mix of chicken droppings and saw dust as the main part of there diet. So i think grass would be a step up from that. they also eat lots of other nasty stuff. They no longer feed them dead cows though because they determined that was what caused mad cow disease. Until mad cow disease though us cows ate cows that had died of sickness and other things.

this brings up a question if you are what you eat, and cow are what they eat. Does that make someone who eats the beef a chicken ****. lol

grass is clearly not a cows favorite food but it works. give them a carrot or ear of corn and they will love it.

Do you eat your favorite food for every meal. Or most the time do you just eat something OK to keep you alive. really if i am not eating my favorite foods all the time why do i care if my food gets it favorite?

They eat grass because they are herbivours and it's the only option we give them. When we were kids we had two cows (and eventually a baby cow... calf?... anyway)

One time the momma cow walked into the lettuce patch and ate that, then walked to the tomatos, carrots... to say the least, she passed all day munching on the little garden my gramma had.

She lost some weight afterwards they said (I couldn't tell a difference) - grampa said it was because she didn't want to eat grass, but after a while she began to eat it again and I kept sneaking apples and carrots and lettuce to her because I felt bad for them.

heh, kids... I did weird things.

Another person posted a question about whether animals "feel emotions like people do". Refer to that for more information.

I would propose that if an animal naturally eats grass, and if grass is a healthy thing for the animal to eat, then the animal enjoys eating it.

The reasoning behind this is that we find that humans naturally tend to prefer flavors that are beneficial (healthy). We have evolved to be repelled by poisonous "food" and attracted to healthy food, in the interest of survival. We could probably safely assume that other animals have evolved in a similar manner.

If cows are given grass and cow-feed simultaneously, they will first finish the cow-feed and then come to eat grass. This indicates, they have a taste and preference also.

There were cows in the field across from the bus stop when I was in elementary school. I know the cows loved it when I would pick clover and give it to them through the fence. On Saturday & Sunday mornings, I'd look out my window and see them standing by the fence mooing and looking for me to give them clover.

Grass / weeds / leaves ape the natural food of grazing animals, so I'd have to say "yes" they are programmed to like the taste.

Cows are herbivores and grazing animals...they are mammals which have 4 stomachs designed for eating grass. In farming situations they eat silage...concentrated nuts...and hay...I'm sure they would wake with disgust when they realise that they are being fed derivatives of their departed cow friends giving them mad cow disease.
