reactors don't pollute if working properly...its the nut cases who disposes of the waste !

Wikipedia has a good general article on it, plus, most valuable, it has a lot of references and links to other sites on nuclear power.

Proving that nuclear power is more effective, more environmentally friendly, and cheaper isn't that easy.

Nuclear power produces no greenhouse gases and seemingly has little solid wastes. However, the solid waste from nuclear reactors have to be stored for up to thousands of years, so even a little will build up over time. Cooling the water is also a problem. If you release warm water into natural waterways, it will have a drastic effect on the lakes or rivers - more algae, change which fish can live there, etc.

Its not necessarily cheaper, either. In fact, the falling cost of oil in relation to other goods was one of the main reasons there have been few new nuclear power plants in the last couple of decades. Fuel prices are cheaper, but the impact of an accident means higher operation and maintenance costs to prevent nuclear accidents. The higher operating and maintenance costs outweigh the cheaper fuel costs when other fuels are cheap.

The positive for nuclear power is that the price of oil has once again caught up with the price of other goods and will probably surpass them. Nuclear power becomes a more attractive power source when the source of other fuel sources rise.

Nuclear power is massively more effective, it is more environmentally friendly, but I'm not sure about cheaper.

But anyway, this is an interesting site to look at for information:

Not trying to stray from the topic... but nuclear Fusion, if ever developed enough to work in a power plant, will be incredible.

No waste there... worst case scenario is a big explosion and a lot of heat.
