Since I have been living in China for about five years, I think I can give a proper response. I am not noticing too much difference in the way I do business. As you can see, I am answering a question in Yahoo Answers.

Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google cooperates with the Chinese government to restrict certain types if information. I am a writer and use the search engines and have not had any problems. You are talking about a worldwide link-up being restrictive. There is alternate ways to access anything you seek. I have noticed there is a great number of Chinese who are enjoying this site. I know because of their written English. I know many cocky Americans insult them with the “learn English” crap. But remember, they speak Chinese and use characters in their written text. The amount of Chinese who can read and write English is greater than the population of the USA.

I think their respressive attitude towards the internet is going to fail. The more they progress, the more people are going to own computers and get hooked up. The policing activity that they're engaging in to monitor the internet is going to quickly become unmanageable, and eventually fall to ineffectiveness. Then what? The flood of free thought coursing through a society like that? You think Tieneman square was big?

The Chinese government should be very afraid. And rightfully so.
