I think you'd do better, putting a kit together, yourself. The ones I have seen are overpriced and contain poor quality tools. I'd get a 12' tape measure, a hammer, a line level and string, a nice set of screwdrivers, and an assortment of screws, nails, and wall anchors. Put it all in a decent tool box with a gift certificate to Home Depot, to cover the unexpected.

STOP!!!!
go to an auto parts store. Seriously, Advance (used to be Discount auto) has tool kits in cases from basic screwdrivers to general handyman items. My son got me one with hammer screwdrivers 3 kinds, Allen wrenches, pliers 3 kinds. scissors, box cutter, measuring tape, tiny tools for eye wear and jewelry, and more all in one case the size of a laptop.
Even if she doesn't have a car, my other son got me a kit from Rose auto parts (Justin Case) with three emergency tows for free, flashlight, glow sticks, reflector triangles, a soft fleece blanket, foil blanket, first aid kit, air compressor we use for beach toys and camp beds, jumper cables, tow rope, blah, blah, blah in a bag the size of my purse. Of coarse, I carry a big purse, but that is the place to look!

Check the local hardware store or especially Walmart. They have loads of things just for college students these days.
And look for S hooks and cork boards. If she is in a dorm, you aren't allowed to hang pictures directly on the walls. They will usually have a picture rail that you can hang things from with S hooks.

I put together a "kit" for my son...
In it, I put:
Small hammer - (which he broke, busting up a couch!)
Multi screw driver, (with the different tips)
Adjustable wrench and small set of wrenches, (open on one side, box on the other).
Tape Measure (12 foot).
File, (small rasp)
Razor Knife - (Sears razor cutter, acts as knife)
Pliers
Chanel Locks.
I bought a small plastic tackle box, took out the tray, and used the entire thing as a tool box... (It wasnt very big, and it was compact.
First day of college, someone borrowed his screw driver to put together a "fouton", and it came to be, that it happened to be his best friend in college!
I wish you well..
Jesse
