Science originated from a basic human desire to understand the world around it. The first science was probably a form of astronomy, as the seasons could be predicted by watching the position of the stars, so it was important to know this because the successful planting of any crops would depend on it. That was probably followed by alchemy, an early predecessor to modern chemistry, the fundamental desire of which was to turn lead into gold (which was not successful until the availability of modern nuclear science, but the gold is still radioactive, so is essentially useless!) The modern version of science as we know it today originated with Galileo's book "The Discoursi", where modern scientific method was established to mean a series of experiments under controlled conditions, repeated to confirm results, and measured to the highest degree of capability of the instruments available for use of the application being studied.

It all depends on what you mean by "science." If you mean simply being inquisitive and testing the world around you to find out what you can and can't do, then "science" originated with the emergence of the first intelligent life forms on the planet. Through trial and error, these creatures lived their lives from day to day, learning what they needed to survive and gaining new knowledge every day from new things they tried to do (or get away with), often passing on this information to others of their kind in one way or another.

If, however, you mean the modern scientific method, that of observing natural phenomena, formulating a hypothesis about it, testing that hypothesis with experiments, collecting data, and then theorizing about the phenomena based of the information you've gathered and the tests you've conducted, then I'd have to say that true science originated separately with the Greeks and the Chinese -- both these cultures used what we now know as the scientific method to discover new ways of doing things, and how the world around them actually worked.

The origination of science is within the mind so has to be when man was created-there is an immediate wonder-curiosity to our origination thus opening the mind to seeking answers to everything, science is the study of everything from the stars to the atom and anybody who seeks answers by research and study is the scientist
