If you plug the printer up to a Windows XP system, by default all other XP computers will see it within 10 minutes or so. This is the default nature of Windows XP printer sharing. Or if you dont want to leave a computer on all the time to allow others to use the printer. Dlink, Linksys and HP all make USB printer network servers, which allow you to put the printer on the network and then you will need to setup the printer on each computer, with the included instructions from whatever print server you purchase and use.

Personally, I'm not into sharing devices and services from one computer to the next. What happens if the computer that is sharing the printer reboots or crashes when you're trying to send a print job?
I'd opt for a USB print server . . . go wireless even if you want to with a print server. The only limitation you'll find with this option is that you need to install the USB print server software on one computer for management, then install the printer drivers on each machine on the network. Also, some computers, like HP, require a direct connection (network, parallel or USB) to install the drivers; a printer server can not be inbetween the computer and printer. But once the drivers are installed, you can put the printer server back online. On the up side, as long as the printer is on, you can print. Printers hardly ever crash and there are no users to complicate printing cues operating the printer.
Oh yeah . . . this is for an answer previous to mine. You don't have to be on the same network as a printer to print to it. I've printed docs from S. Korea to the US with no problems.

Yes you can use a Normal printer as a network printer, but to do this you need to install the printer drivers and connect it to any system and then share the printer and you can access it and print from any machine.
But you need to remember one thing is that the machine to which the printer is connected should be switched on and the IP addresses should be in the same range.
Before printing you need to check if the Printer status is Ready(in Green Colour) for this you can click on Start-->Control Pannel-->Printers
If the status is Unavailable then you need to access the System for which the printer is connected from Run and then you will be able to change the status to Ready...
Hope this will be helpful to you in configuring the Printer....

decide for the E4200 (version 2.0) or the greater moderen EA4500. I had a 3000 formerly applying a 4200; on an identical time as they're genuinely the comparable, the E4200 is plenty swifter on the two bands than the E3000. you're able to do what you're envisioning to do with instantaneous connectivity on your Router without 'internet hookup, yet remember you nonetheless choose 'internet get entry to and the thank you to acquire/flash the Router with the latest firmware variations. as quickly as you install community Magic (Linksys CD that comes along with your Router) you need to use its community Map function to confirm in basic terms how each and every thing connects visually. as far as Ethernet vs. USB, USB 2.0 is 480mbps, the place Ethernet is in basic terms 100mbps. on the subject of HDTV hookup, as long because it helps networking (the two USB instantaneous adapter or Ethernet direct connection or Bridge), then sure, you are able to connect it on your LAN. inspite of the undeniable fact that, observing the specs on your particular television, there would not seem to be any USB or Ethernet ports.

1. You need to share the printer on the PC where it was physically attached.
2. Create a shortcut on every desktop on the Network. To make it easier for them to print!
