1. "That Rosebud problem is even stupider than you think. It all starts with the old guy muttering "Rosebud" and croaking and then the rest of the movie ["Citizen Kane"] is about a reporter trying to find out what Rosebud means. But how did the reporter, or anyone else, hear him mutter that word? I don't think anyone else was close enough to him to hear it." (posted by RatPeople; on 04/02/00)
2. "I Disagree with Mr. Cranky. I was disappointed at the end of the movie, the first time I saw it. If you watch it again, you may be able to see that Rosebud was a symbol of what Charles loved, maybe the only thing he ever remembered loving. You have to see he was abandoned by his mother and given (willfully) to a rich man with no heir. He never was taught to love any_thing/one beyond the material aspect. I think the ending was appropriate also because it was such a simple thing to such a complicated man." (posted by JayJay; on 04/20/00)
In what concerns my personal opinion, the Rosebud is an ancient
symbol--which has to do with the Love of God; and Maria.
Mister Charles Foster Kane has sacrificed everything which was human
in him (and around him), for the sake of Power. But, at the end of his
"conquer", he was not powerful enough to accept the Love's re-entering
in his life; and in his dryed soul. Nevertheless, in his last moments, he
has a revelation...

the last word that kane said and turned out to be a sled (the only reason it consider the best is that wells did it by himself free for studio rules. Critics loved it because of that. I still say it's not on my top 100)
