Bombay by far. A truly cosmopolitan place and obviously the Financial, Business, Entertainment and Industrial capital of India. A city that never sleeps and where you can live on $1 to $100K in a single day. In a country with nothing Bombay has all amenities and offers a lifestyle that would rival any major city worldwide.
Unfortunately being what is it the underworld has a very strong presence and it is often the target of terrorist attacks.

Mumbai
Mumbai (IPA:/'mumbəi/ (help·info),Marathi: मुंबई), formerly known as Bombay, is the capital of the state of Maharashtra, and the most populous city of India, with an estimated population of about 13 million (as of 2006)[1]. Mumbai is located on Salsette Island, off the west coast of Maharashtra. Along with its neighbouring suburbs, it forms the world's fifth most populous metropolitan area with a population of about 20 million. The city has a deep natural harbour and the port handles over half of India's passenger traffic and a significant amount of cargo.[2]
Mumbai is the commercial and entertainment capital of India, and houses important financial institutions, such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the corporate headquarters of many Indian companies. Mumbai has attracted migrants from all over India because of the immense business opportunities, and the relatively high standard of living, making the city a potpourri of various communities and cultures. The city is home to India's Hindi film and television industry, known as Bollywood. Mumbai is also one of the rare cities to accommodate a national park, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, within its city limits.

No city is good to lead a peaceful life. Cities full of chaos. Again the choice of the city depends on the preferences. In my opinion and preferences, I'll choose a smaller town which is not yet polluted.

actually all cities are good with their good and bad qualities.but smaller towns are better .and best are our villages where u will never feel lonely ,even if one is alone will never feel lonely if u r sick full village will be there to take care. in times of need u will find full village by ur side.and their love is true.
full fresh air .no polution.it is best if near a big city.does not matter which state or which city, a village is a villagewhere people are most of them caring, loving, simple, pure hearted n concerned.

i would say bangalore. For one thing, it has a cosmopolitan culture. In fact , it has as many non-natives as the number of natives. It has a great nightlife. The international airport and a metro are coming up.
On the human side, the people are most friendly and are willing to help. The terror threat is minimal.
