How long isit?..how big is the entire thing when lost?..l

Mine was not that big a deal... a little mucous discharge with a little blood on it... No pain... Just realized it was out when I peed and wiped myself...

It also doesnt mean that you are in labor... days can go by after you release it and give birth

The mucous plug fills a woman's cervix in order to protect against infection and disease from getting into the uterus where your baby is growing. The actual length of it would vary because all women are different, therefore will have different lengths and sizes of cervix.

The overwhelming majority of the time, it's not lost as one whole plug. Bits of it get lose and come out as the cervix begins to soften and dialate. Some women have already dialated to 1 or 2 cm's before actual labor starts, so what ever bit of plug was in that space would come out. Chances are, you might not notice any of it.

Losing your mucous plug, or what is often called bloody show, doesn't mean that labor is going to happen right quick. Could still be as much as weeks away. If you've lost your entire plug in one big chunk, you're probably well on the dialation road. You've also lost the protective barrier to your uterus. If you don't know how that can affect you and your baby, consult with your doc or midwife.

As you near the end of your pregnancy, your cervix will begin to thin out and dilate. As it changes, you may lose your mucus plug and find a gooey deposit in your underwear or on the toilet tissue after wiping. It is not uncommon for this mucus to be mixed with brown, pink, or red streaks of blood from the changes occurring within your cervix. Some women may lose the plug at 36 weeks' gestation, while many others may not lose it until labor has begun. Sometimes moms-to-be may not even notice that they are losing their mucus plug because it happens gradually, over several weeks, and they've already grown accustomed to varying but increased amounts of the vaginal discharge that often accompanies a normal pregnancy.

As it's name says, it is mucus. Don't mean to sound gross but it's like snot. It is there so that foreign object don't get into the womb, Make sure you don't have sex when you loose it. I had my daughter the same day I lost my plug. Mine was fairly long and it just sort of hung there, until I wiped. Please don't take this as gross I am just trying to let you know my experiences. Good luck and you should probably have the baby soon but could take up to a week!

A mucus plug is a viginal dischange with a pink show in it to let you know that you are just starting the first stage of labour so you can get every thing ready to go the hospital.

think about what has been plugged. It will be a thicker type of discharge and will be little at first and increasing. Never measured the amount before difference in person. Con grads on the new one.

Its kind of like a thick discharge, like snot i guess you could say. I'm not sure why its called a plug at all cause it doesn't look like a plug. So congrats on the new baby. He or she will be here soon.

It's not big at all. It's just like passing a clot of mucus. Maybe the size of a quarter. You'll know when it happens. When you go to the bathroom & wipe...you'll be like "what is this"? That is is. No biggie.

Hun, while it's called a "plug" it just comes out like discharge. It's just mucus, meaning it's pretty much liquid.

Its like a jelly like discharge, browny yellow, not very bug and not necessarily all lost at once like a 'plug'.
