They key word here is some....My mother-in-law was really nice to me in the beginning until she found out that we were serious and I wasn't going anywhere. She became rude, and sometimes wouldn't speak. My husband was a mommas boy and it took many years to break that up. They are still close but I am who he comes to and confides in.
Anyway, I think that it's just hard for some people to let go. Others just want to continuously control their children's lives. The only person that gets satisfaction from it is the overbearing parent. The mother should realize that she makes her son have to choose between her and the girlfriend/wife and if she's not careful she may not like his decision.
There are times when the mother really knows best but there is a way she should go about helping her son to realize that he's making a mistake.
For my 19 year old, I welcomed his ex-girlfriend with open arms, but my 15 year old had a wild child and she was GHETTO! I had to let him know, but the more I showed dislike the less he shared things with me so I let it go and now...after many months he's no longer interested in her for the same reasons I didn't care for her.
To all you mothers BACK OFF!!!! Let your sons live their lives.

As a mother of four sons, I can tell you truthfully that I see my sons' wives and girlfriends as a Godsend! Men are truly boys and boys need mamas, but when they are men they need women and I was grateful to hand them over!
By the way, they have wonderful wives (and girlfriends) and it doesn't matter what I think about these women, as long as my sons are happy. Actually I couldn't help but appreciate a woman that loves the son I raised.
Your theory is unfounded.

Same reasons fathers see a competition in their daughters boyfriends.
We raise our children and we THINK we know what is best for them. As for boys, we are the only REALLY important woman in their lives as they grow up and then to see another woman come in the picture makes you feel some type of way.
I've been a victim of it. I have two boys myself and hope that I don't act like that. I'm raising them to find a good woman and move on.

I never saw the girls as competition with me. I have 3 sons and I want them to be happy. I may not approve of how they treat my sons, but once again I am not with them behind closed doors so to speak. I get along great with my daugher-in- laws. When I have a problem with one of them or them with me we talk about it, not argue. My mother-in-law however had a great deal of stress over me, don,t understand her but oh well, her loss because her son did not like the way she treated me or our children.

mother are women and all women dont want to face the fact that they are getting old. which is probably why you see the jealous reaction from mothers of boys towards their girlfriends.

Because it is. As a mother you drop from your #1 spot of love. At least that's how it feels.
