I went through a phase where I wanted to be straight , I think all gay men and women do . I feel that if I were straight my life would be easier in a lot of ways . I am a gay man in my 40's when I came out it was not an easy life and being gay was not at all accepted or tolerated in the south . I have been fighting for gay rights since I can out and things have gotten better , we have a long way to go in order to be considered normal . I am happy with my life and if I had to do it all over again there are very few things I would do different . The things I have had to endure and the fight I have fought have all made me who I am today . So I would be who I am .

I am aghast. It would be easier to be straight, but if I somehow found myself at the beginning of my life again and was presented with the choice of being straight and not knowing what happens or being gay and having my life turn out as it has so far, I would definitely be gay.

Without that, I would be in love.
WIthout that, I wouldn't have been with my other half for nearly seven years.
I wouldn't be getting married in December.

Of course, I would probably have a lovely girlfriend and kids and what-have-you, but my life right now is great and has been for a long time.

I would recommend that your friends consider the larger view of their lives, because it could be a hell of a lot worse - the fact that they can be open about their sexuality without being executed, put in prison or a mental institute is something to celebrate; other gay people in the world don't have that luxury.

No way, this is who I am. If I was straight I wouldn't have met certain people who have made me happy, I'd be a different person without them. However, I do wish that homosexuality was more socially acceptable. I don't care about being accepted and I'm not ashamed of pda, but there are so many threatening people around. I don't think gay people should have to hide their relationships and restrict themselves from acting the way heterosexual couples do in public for the sake of prejudice people. Sometimes I worry when people shout things and make threats that one day they might physically hurt my girlfriend. There's no chance I'd let them, but I wish I didn't have to have that worry. Some things will never change though.

Yes and no. I'd never have chosen to be gay. But this is how I was made, and I accept that. I'd never take a "straight pill" as somebody suggested here a couple of weeks ago. I am who I am, and though I only wish I could say I have no regrets, I'd never turn my back on the many great people I might never have gotten to know had I not been born gay.

I used to wish I was straight when I hadn't accepted my sexuality, but now I think being gay has made me a better person. Without being gay, I don't think I'd be so motivated to kick *** in my A levels and I wouldn't be passionate about certain positive causes.

gay is a normal thing.
even a 'straight' people some time do abnormal think. people think that what is normal and what is not normal because people judge another people by what already in society, such as law, behavior, etc
so tell your gay friend it's normal being a gay. don't change what you are because what every body think. just live your life free as you want but as long it's doesn't hurt anybody else.
what you choice is what you want and what you are.
just free and express yourself

I agree with your friends, but on a different level. It's not so much that I wish I was straight, but that I wish my sexual preference would be accepted by society. Do I need acceptance? Not necessarily, but I would love it if I didn't have to think twice about putting my arms around another guy or kissing another guy just because I wanted to, something heterosexual couples take for granted.

I enjoy being gay, wouldn't go str8 if I could--its fun, its interesting, I could never even pretend to be interested in raising kids, ballet lessons or little league, no way. And frankly I like spending my money on me or treating my friends when and if I want, but not having to pay a wife's bills and those of any number of children. I can fly to Maui for a weekend anytime I want, I value that.
