Let's be realistic, the inner-city public school systems are failing. Test scores in grades 3, 6, 8, and 10 are lower than they've ever been.
It's time to look at what alternative educational programs like Charter Schools seem to be doing right...

Positives:

* Opportunity for educators to experiment with new ideas; if successful, these ideas could benefit all students.

* Creates some truly wonderful, life-changing schools.

Negatives:

* Creates some truly terrible schools.

* Destabilizes the existing educational system, sometimes with little payoff.

* Drains resources out of public schools and eventually increases the inequity between good and bad schools.

Long story short:

I support the best of the charter schools, but I believe that they have a responsibility to share their successes with the school system as a whole.
