ghosts? My idea of ghosts is sort of broad. THere are the spirits from bodies of people/animals that are no longer living and are lost, or restless.
Then there are spirits that are simply energies. these ones dont' really appear to be much of anything, and hang around either because they're lost, angry, or are looking for company. Or are being annoying.
THere is also the simple "feeling" of a haunt. that is called Dark Energy. My friend had a house with a room that had Dark Energy. you felt you were being watched and felt scared in the room that had it strongest. I have been in other places that feel like this.
I do however believe some of these things related to the subject of ghosts, and some sightings, are simply myths.

Ghosts are the souls of people who have died that either have unfinished business here or have yet to realize that they have indeed died. Often times you can help a ghost to the other side by simply talking to it and explaining that it is indeed dead and that it should go towards the light where it will be reunited with friends and family.

Spirits are often misconstrued as ghosts.
Spirits are the souls that have crossed over. They can come back to visit us if they desire. Spirits appear to be floating off the ground. This is because their plane of existance is about three feet higher than ours is.

My theory is that people "see" ghosts because of a misunderstanding that goes back to times and places where "shamanic" type visions/journeys were common. In cultures where this practice is common the "shaman" ( I use it in quotation marks to be clear I am not referring specifically to Siberian Shamans but to the types of practice spoken of by such authors as Mircea Eliade) a practitioner, and his audience, understood that there are things which are seen in ordinary reality in one way and in "non ordinary reality" (with the eyes closed, or envisioned in the mind) in another way. They did/do not feel it necessary to stop in the middle of a story to point out the dead person they "saw" was being seen in way other than with the physical eyes.
What we "see" or think we see is often based on what is expected in our culture. If we believe it is possible to "see" ghosts then we see them. If we do not believe it is possible then we won't.

Video fantasy and arcade games featuring Ghosts, Skeletons, Mummies and other creatures that are alive after death are also extremely popular today.

Does the Bible have anything to say about the increased interest in this strange phenomena?

Yes, the Bible indicates that 'paranormal activity' and interest in the spirit world would increase at the very end of time. Furthermore, the Bible indicates that these spirits will fasten multitudes into a world wide deception.

"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty." Revelation 16:13-14

It is VERY important that we understand what the Bible says about ghosts, spirits, and the afterlife.

Spiritual Manifestations are not all Sleight of Hand

On the internet one can find many web sites dedicated to ghost pictures and photos of ghosts, videos of ghosts, and ghost stories. Certainly many of these images, videos, and stories are clever hoaxes. However, some of these ghost sightings may actually be something, the question is what?

Who inhabits Haunted Houses?

People are often fearful of old, dark, rundown buildings and houses, believing that they are haunted by the spirits of the dead.

The Bible teaches however that the dead do not come back to haunt houses because they are resting in grave awaiting either of the two ressurections.

Who is responsible for the strange phenomena that is happening all over the world? It is Satan, who wants the world to believe that the dead are not really dead. The Devil set the stage for his masterpiece endtime delusion a long time ago.

The occult practices of mediums who think they talk to the dead is popular again today. They are really talking to demons.Many people think that spiritual manifestations are fraudulent hoaxes. But while it is true that trickery has often been palmed off as genuine manifestations, there has also been marked exhibitions of supernatural power.

The mysterious rappings with which modern spiritualism began, late in the 19th century, was not the result of human trickery or cunning, but was the direct work of evil angels, who thus introduced one of the most successful of soul-destroying delusions.

People that have died traumatically (suicide or murdered), or people that can't let go of their earthly life, have unfinished business or don't realize they are dead that refuse to pass on to the other side or towards the light of the afterlife so they remain stuck in the material earth plane until they decide to go into the light.
