Ant:
Kingdom: Animalia
Division: Rhopalocera
Phylum: Arthropoda
Subphylum: Hexapoda
Class: Insecta
Subclass: Pterygota
Infraclass: Neoptera
Superorder: Endopterygota
Order: Hymenoptera
Suborder: Apocrita
Superfamily: Vespoidea
Family: Formicidae
Termite:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Subclass: Pterygota
Infraclass: Neoptera
Superorder: Dictyoptera
Order: Isoptera
As you can see, they are not the same order (or superorder) of insect. Which mean they are generally similar in that they are insects, they have exoskeletons, and that is about it. They share as much in common as a horse and a deer.

Termites are not a type of ant, they are not even closely related. They are both insects, however they are in different orders and families!
