Personally, I find that, if I've gotten turned on enough, it can be amazing. But, if I haven't gotten enough preparation (read: foreplay) then it just hurts. You really need to have a good partner, one who's considerate of your needs, before you go and try that.
Lots of straight couples have anal sex; it's not a pure gay thing to do. I read somewhere that gay couples do the BJ more than any other sexual act. I don't think your man will give up those just because gay people do them!
