Best Buy has an excellent deal on two Gateway laptops this week...one for $399 and one for $479. The more expensive one is a MUCH better machine...my father just bought one for his work.

Depending on what you want you can get a very good laptop from the Dell outlet centre for around300/400GBP . If you just want something basic with word and a cd Rom then id advertise in local papers for a second hand laptop ,Many big companies update their computers every 2 years and sell their old ones to secondhand stores ,these computers are of excellent quality and have alot of programmes installed.

Dell. I think that they still have destop computers starting at about $300, and laptops starting at about $500. I have a basic Dell Inspiron 1200 for almost one year now, and it is great. It can do more than I can ask of it, since I'm just a beginner in computers.
Log on to dell.com and check out the current models and prices.

Ebay is good, but make sure that the seller is genuine (i.e. avoid anyone who won't take paypal, or who has 100% ratings and only been operating for a couple of days). I bought a really nice Dell machine for £200 a couple of months ago that's worth 3 times that. Good luck and be sensible!

Right now, Tesco are selling a £299 bundle of computer, LCD screen and inkjet printer. You could pay that just for the screen. It's no good for 3D games, but well worth the price if you want something for internet, email typing and speadsheets.

Try craigslist.com or your local newspaper. A lot of times people have some good stuff but they sell it cheap because they just want to get rid of it.
