Yes, it's as easy as breathing if you are connected to any kind of network. They can watch exactly the same thing you are, see your personal mail, web site visits, and downloaded materials. It's only slightly more difficult if you access the Internet directly.
If you have a desire for privacy you will not find it at work. If your Internet behavior could be a job issue, rethink your habits.

As most peolpe have said the answer is a definite YES. All servers (which you need to use to access the internet) have the ability to create logs. These logs make a record of all the activity of the server....what computer logged on when, what time, what information they requested etc. NOTHING online is private. Oneway is to encrypt you requests and information (a bit techical and not likely at work), but then someone can often break that encytption.
So quite simpily anyone with the knowledge to read logs can view all the information. But what has happened now is the companies can perchase software that reads those log and present the information in a simple for for your boss to understand. So he can instruct the software to monitor when you switch on your computer and how you use the network (and Internet) and as already indicated he is entitled to read your work emails.

Very little doubt that your access to the internet is via some form of proxy on the companies network and so yes it's very simple to monitor how long and where you've been.
As fo the legality of reading your emails in the UK at least it's a grey area and would, in part, depend on what's in your contract.
Best bet is to buy the IT team a drink next time they're out.

Yep all the time! and yes if your company has the correct software (and most do) they can see what is on your screen. They also get a list of the web address you go to AND how long you spend there.
I was in the top 5 Internet users at my last job, I was told to tone it down...BOOO

I work for an airline, and we use computer and internet to do our job (reservations & ticketing). They have this programm VCN Server, that allows the administrator of the comany to check the computer for viruses or other things that may prejudiciate our work. I'm sure they monitorize our browsing, what we do and where we go online..so what??? I personally don't care and don't have nothing to hide...we have restrictions though with messenger, no computer has it!

Your network supervisor can check how long you've been on the internet and which sites you've visited. This assumes you've got a network supervisor and he knows how to check the logs - and can be bothered.

They can check up if they suspected you were skiving, so just make sure the boss doesn't catch you.
Mind though, they will find out if you use company accounts to purchase porn.

your boss is watching you all the time... you will notice that your computers are only in guest mode... your manager will be the administrator and therefore see when and where you have been on the internet... he is writing your P45 right now...........

Used to before I became a teacher.
Yes they (read your boss) can check where and what you surf, and they are allowed legally to read all your email.
