For those who haven't read the book. It is a Scifi about racist time travelers that supplied the confederacy with weapons from the future hoping to stem the liberation of slaves.

I think it would make an excellent movie. The time problems mentioned by a previous answerer are resolvable. I think the biggest problem would be the ending -- there are some people who might have political problems with the way that the slavery issue is resolved.

In any case, if it was made, I'd go see it.

I'm not sure that it would translate too well to a motion picture format. The action is spread over a couple of years, and it bogged down in politics as the book goes along. Still, it might be worth a try. I suppose that a half-way decent movie can be stretched out of it.

While answering, I was reminded of a story that I heard regarding Lee at Appomattox:

"General Lee. You do not have to surrender. We are from the future, and we can supply you with advanced weapons so you can defeat the Union army."
General Lee responds, "You're the 150th group to make that offer to me just this week! Leave me alone!"
