Do you believe that whatever we are began long before this life, and that there may not even be either a "beginning" or an end at all (many Eastern philosophies)?

Or do you believe that your beginning was with birth (atheists, humanists, Jewish, Christian, and Islamic philosophies)?

If you believe our beginning was at birth, do you believe that our end will come with death (atheists, secular humanists, etc.)?

You see, I believe in the eternal nature of what we are, physically and spiritually, scientifically and philosophically ...... But I'm truly interested in how you perceive us: Are we eternal? ...... Without beginning, and without end?

Everything is eternal. Whether we are conscious of it is another thing.

First of all, I believe that I do not know. I believe that no one knows and that we may never know. I'm simply being humble and recognizing my human-ness. However, I personally feel that we are a part of something that is greater than us.. something natural and beautiful and also that we were obviously not meant to know everything. If we were, we simply would not be so divided on these sorts of issues. It is very natural to live and it is very natural to die. Plants grow from the ground, bloom, and then return to the earth again and they never ask or worry about why they existed. The same goes for your favorite pet. They live a life of obedience to you.. they love you unconditionally, never worrying about where they came from or where they are going. But do you think that this makes their life any less meaningful or beautiful? No. They do not have the mental capacity to know. They were not meant to know, for whatever reason. So why is it so hard to accept the fact that we may not have the mental capacity to know either? We are only human. We do not have all the answers. Let's just all be thankful that we are alive.

Nikki made a good point. I'll just add that I think life is infinitely easier for those who succeed in really believing they are eternal beings.
Unfortunately, nothing in my life has managed to convince me that this is a fact and not just highly appealing fiction.

Nope.

We're born. We Live. We die.

Nothing before birth. Nothing after death.

well - according to my Energy transformation theory
i can say - we are ethernal - do not know about starting , but after end - maybe we shall transofrm in other kind of energy - even not thinkfull , and presists in ethernity even not understanding anything of our existance ...

do not know ... but i do not like very the idea of Ending all with the death ... but it's more acceptable than presistance of hell and paradise.
